Everton's sly £6m bid for Argentine star sparks Arsenal, Man Utd and Tottenham into action
EVERTON have been told that they must increase their £6m offer to stand any chance of landing Argentine star Ever Banega.
The Toffees had hoped to secure a deal away from the prying eyes of Man Utd, Tottenham and Arsenal - however Valencia have other ideas.
Their rejection has alerted league rivals and could create a bidding war between the four clubs, which would usually leave Everton on the periphery of a deal.
However, Roberto Martinez has never complained about a lack of funds since his appointment, something his predecessor David Moyes bemoaned frequently.
And with a total of £32.5m received for the sales of Marouane Fellaini and Victor Anichebe, increased television money and a Europa League bonus - Martinez may find himself with a generous fund to bolster Everton's threadbare ranks.
Premier League sides will be encouraged by the noises coming from Banega's UK agent, Jonathan Hope, who said: "We have had immense interest in the Argentinian international.
"I can confirm I am personally speaking to two top clubs who have expressed real intent in capturing the player.
"He is a top quality player and he is still only 25 and I believe he would be a major success in the Premier League."
Banega spent last season on loan at Newell's Old Boys after falling out of favour at Valencia.
