The Blues are four points clear of Saints in the table, however Mourinho's men are unbeaten in their first 10 Premier League games.
Mourinho's side could find themselves nine points clear of Manchester City, at least for a few hours if they see off Liverpool tomorrow (12:45pm).
Speaking about the title race, Mourinho said: "I think everyone that wants to be, everyone that feels they can be.
"Are Southampton unexpected to be there? Maybe yes. Do they deserve to be there?

"Yes. Can they be involved? Of course they can. It's up to them, not us.
"We have to respect the fantastic work they're doing.
