Liverpool to frustrate Man Utd and Arsenal in striker battle with £650m takeover funds
LIVERPOOL will compete with rival clubs Manchester United and Arsenal for Robert Lewandowski's signature this summer, according to reports.
Liverpool reportedly want to sign Poland international Robert Lewandowski
The Daily Star claim the Reds are set for a major takeover from investors in the Middle East.
According to the claims, current owners Fenway Sports Group are in advanced talks with prospective new buyers.
Liverpool is currently valued at £650million - more than double what FSG paid for the club back in October 2010.
United are understood to be eyeing a number of forward options after a disappointing campaign - although the emergence of Marcus Rashford is, at least, some consolation for a season that has seen the squad heavily hit by injuries.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have signed just two first-team outfield players in the past three transfer windows and there are calls for manager Arsene Wenger to splash the cash this summer.
Express Sport understands Manchester City have also earmarked the striker as a target for the summer months.
Robert Lewandowski - Spotlight on
But Liverpool reportedly believe they can launch a rival bid for Lewandowski, who played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and who has scored 42 goals for club and country this season.
His arrival would all but certainly ensure Christian Benteke's exit from Anfield after a nightmare debut season on Merseyside, while Mario Balotelli - on loan at AC Milan for the season - will also be axed.
