A frantic first half saw Hugo Lloris come to Tottenham’s rescue a number of times as the Reds produced some of their best football with Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana floating into space.
And it was Coutinho who broke the deadlock although it wasn’t until after half-time.
The Brazilian combined with Daniel Sturridge to slice apart the Spurs defence before placing the ball delicately into the far corner.
Simon Mignolet had to be at his best throughout the game but Mauricio Pochettino’s team did find a way past him to ensure they were only behind for 12 minutes.
Harry Kane rolled his man and produced the perfect finish from 10 yards out to equalise.
And while Spurs finished the game the stronger of the two sides, they couldn’t find a winner.
Pochettino was left beating the ground in frustration at the final whistle and will now hope that his old team Southampton can do him a favour against Leicester tomorrow.
