Revealed: Manager admits Liverpool held talks for 'big money' striker
RAFA BENITEZ has admitted Sergio Aguero was offered to Liverpool for 'big money' during his time in charge of the club.
Rafa Benitez says Sergio Aguero was offered to Liverpool during his time there
Aguero joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for a reported £38million and has gone on to become one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Premier League history.
The Argentina international has scored 99 league goals in 146 appearances for City - a stat made all-the-more impressive given his problems with injuries.
However, Newcastle boss Benitez has admitted it could have been very different for the 27-year-old, claiming he was offered to Liverpool in 2006.
"Sergio was helping me," Benitez said ahead of Newcastle's clash with City tonight (7.45pm).
