LIV Golf star who has earned £6million is almost disqualified due to little-known rule

Zimbabwean golfer Scott Vincent overcame huge adversity to card an impressive opening round at the International Series Morocco. That's after he was forced to borrow a set of golf clubs for his first day at the competition when his own set was lost by airport luggage en route to Casablanca.

The LIV Golf member – who has won just short of £6million on the Saudi-funded series – was almost disqualified from the event as a result of the mishap. Vincent, 32, came close to breaching the Rules of Golf when he almost turned up more than five minutes late for his tee time after jetting to the airport to retrieve his lost items.

His golf clubs hadn't shown up, however, and he still copped a two-stroke penalty after making it to the first tee with only 30 seconds to spare. Nevertheless, he still managed to card an impressive 68 on Thursday and keep himself in the running despite borrowing a makeshift set from his peers and the local club pro at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.

Vincent – whose younger brother, Kieran, also plays in the LIV Golf League – showed appreciation for his fellow stars for the help ensuring he could play at all. However, the sooner the LIV competitor can retrieve his own kit, the better.

“Lucky enough, we have some really cool people out here on the Asian Tour – it is a friendly tour," he said, per Golf Digest. "A lot of people had clubs, bits and pieces, but obviously it is hard to make up a full set when you do not have anything, so we have a bit of a mixed bag here!

“I have talked a lot to myself about adapting, no matter what, whatever the situation might be. And so just being able to go out there with none of my stuff, even golf shoes, I am taking in the moment, and we will just take it as it comes.”

The Denver resident appeared content just to still be in contention in Casablanca given the threat of disqualification was looming. And he's making the most of his opportunity after amassing a score of seven-under after two rounds.

That's put Vincent within two shots of leader John Catlin in Morocco, though he'll need to up the pace even more given the penalty that's soon to be applied. And he may consider asking his generous benefactors for advice on where they got their clubs.

Younger sibling Kieran hasn't fared quite as well with unfamiliar equipment but still managed to finish one-under-par in each of the first two rounds. LIV team-mate Caleb Surratt supplied his irons for the weekend, while Taichi Kho gave him a driver and Ian Snyman lended him a wedge.

It was confirmed Scott fortunately recovered his clubs before his second-round outing in Morocco. However, the same can't be said for Kieran after he borrowed college comrade Ervin Chang's for Friday's action.
