Muirfield: David Lynn shows who wears trousers
DAVID LYNN recently agreed to betting company Paddy Power painting him green from head to foot for their latest whacky advertising wheeze, but last year’s USPGA runner-up showed commendable restraint by declining their Muirfield stunt.
Players should wear suitable clothes which are in keeping with their roles as professionals,
Paddy Power wanted Lynn to wear a pair of pants emblazoned with their logo outside his golf trousers, Superman-style.
R&A chief executive Peter Dawson raised a curious eyebrow over that one yesterday, then recalled the only occasion he could remember where a player asked him for clothing advice.
“It was the 2000 Champions Trophy and Gary Player rang me to ask if he could wear black and white trousers, one colour on each leg, to highlight the end of apartheid. Not a problem at all,” said Dawson.
For the record, the rules on golf apparel are relatively unclear. “Players should wear suitable clothes which are in keeping with their roles as professionals,” said Dawson.
That presumably does not include wearing Paddy Power pants.
