Jockeys tribute
FLAGS flew at half-mast at York races yesterday in memory of the two apprentices that died in a fire at Norton, near Malton in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Jamie Kyne, 18, and Jan Wilson, 19, were both due to ride later in the day - Kyne at Haydock and Wilson at Thirsk. Silent tributes took place and jockeys wore black armbands.
“To lose two very talented young riders in these circumstances is tragic,” said Kevin Darley, the former top rider, now chief executive of the Professional Jockey’s Association.
Kyne was apprenticed to local trainer John Quinn, who supplied 15 of his 38 winners this year.
Wilson won three races on her mother’s Imperial Sword this year.
