Former English darts player Colin Lloyd has weighed in with his verdict on the Peter Wright and Michael Smith row that occurred during a press conference at the World Cup of Darts. Speaking on the Love the Darts podcast that is run by Sky Sports, Colin 'Jaws' Lloyd admitted that he "loved" the little tiff that the pair had ahead of their semi-final clash.

Sky Sports presenter Michael Bridge had delved into the 'fight' that the pair had and claimed that Wright meant "no serious malice" whatsoever with his little comments to Smith.

Wright had asked Luke Humphries how his shoulders were, implying that he was 'carrying' Smith during their journey to the World Cup final. Smith then reacted later on, noting that Wright had been 'carrying' the Premier League due to sitting at the bottom of the table the whole season.

Bridge said: "There’s one thing you’d never do is rule any of those two out. Look, they’re serial winners, they are winners - they don’t like to see the younger lads winning.

"And of course look, England were the clear favourites and justifiably so. They had a little bit of fun at the end of the press conference and there’s nothing wrong with that at all."

Then host Emma Paton asked Lloyd if he enjoyed the little tiff that Wright and Smith had - to which he had the perfect response.

Lloyd simply said: "Listen, it’s all part and parcel of the game, I loved it. Long may it continue!"

Smith and Humphries ended up smashing their Scottish rivals Wright and Gary Anderson 8-4 in the semi-finals before going on to win the whole tournament against Austria.

England defeated Austria 10-6 in the final of the World Cup of Darts to give the country a record-breaking fifth title and the first one since 2016.
