Big splinter for cyclist sprinter
AZIZULHASNI AWAN shows the results of a crash in the Keirin sprint race at the Manchester World Cup track meeting.
A pile-up took out four riders and saw a foot-long wooden splinter pass through the lower leg of Malaysian Awang, 23.
Incredibly, he got back on his bike and finished third, pipping race winner Sir Chris Hoy to the Keirin title decided over the four World Cup meetings.
Awang had the splinter removed yesterday and Malaysian head coach John Beasley said: “He’s a pretty tough character.”
