Roger Federer says he was on a flight during Andy Murray's emotional Wimbledon goodbye. The Swiss star had been at the All England Club with his family for most of the week but remained hidden behind the scenes.
He was planning to attend Murray's singles match on Tuesday but the Brit pulled out due to injury.
Andy entered the men's doubles draw alongside brother Jamie so he had one more chance to say goodbye to his home Slam.

A number of Murray's rivals, including Novak Djokovic, joined him on court to honour his career.
But Federer was a notable absence and he has now explained why he was not at SW19.
"I wish I could’ve been there last night but I already had obligations because I didn’t know how it was gonna all play out," Federer told ESPN.
"I actually took an earlier flight on Tuesday to be here in case he played his singles. As I boarded the flight, I learned Andy wasn’t playing singles.

"I was like ‘Oh my God.’ I was on standby. Sadly last night I couldn’t be there. I quickly went to see him before the match. I could see Andy was extremely nervous and caring for that very moment.
"Obviously Wimbledon means so much to him and his family and team. I watched all the highlights again and thought ‘amazing for him.’
"Still a little more to come in the mixed and also the Olympics. Then I guess that’s it for him.
