Stefanos Tsitsipas has invited Margot Robbie to watch his matches at the US Open after receiving the approval of his girlfriend Paula Badosa. The Greek hopeful will begin his campaign against Thanasi Kokkinakis on Tuesday and will be hoping to challenge for the title.

Tsitsipas is known to be a huge fan of Robbie, having previously invited her to attend other tournaments. Speaking ahead of the US Open, he was asked which celebrity he would bring to Flushing Meadows and his answer was of little surprise.

"Paula approves, formal invite to Margot Robbie, please," he replied. "Any tournament you want. I have tickets for you. I have credentials for you, not even tickets."

Badosa later replied to her boyfriend's comments on X, formerly Twitter, saying: "I want her also in my team."

Tsitsipas has regularly named Robbie as his favourite celebrity and name-dropped the actress during an interview at last year's Australian Open. He said: "I like a lot of Aussie things. One of my favourite actresses comes from Australia, Margot Robbie. It would be nice to see her here one day."

After reaching the final in Melbourne, Tsitsipas appeared to go back on his word by suggesting that he would rather not have the extra pressure of Robbie watching him in the crowd.

"The plan is for me to do my job, play good tennis and the rest can come afterwards," he explained. "I admire her a lot, she is a great actress, I like her work but I am focusing on my own world. I would prefer not to try [playing in front of her]. Maybe another time."

A few months later, Tsitsipas was quizzed on his dream doubles partner at Wimbledon and made no secret of his desire to team up with Robbie on the court.

He also suggested that Badosa would approve of their partnership, saying: "My current girlfriend supports it because she is a fan too, a big fan of hers, so I would go with Margot Robbie. I’m happy with that."

It remains to be seen if Robbie will attend the US Open after being publicly invited by Tsitsipas. A host of celebrities are likely to be spotted in the crowd at Flushing Meadows, with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet attending last year's tournament.
