Wimbledon fitness doubts for Novak Djokovic
NOVAK DJOKOVIC has sparked major doubts about his fitness for Wimbledon by withdrawing from an exhibition match yesterday to protect a wrist problem.
Djokovic, beaten in last year's final by Andy Murray and top seed for next week's Championships, was due to face Robin Haase at the traditional Wimbledon build-up event at Boodles in Stoke Park, but pulled out just two hours before he was due on court.
Djokovic is a regular at the event in Buckinghamshire, and the Serb was at a press conference at the club earlier in the day to publicise wheelchair tennis, but he left before his match in order not to further aggravate the injury.
A source close to Djokovic said: "Sometimes the best preparation is not to play. Novak had to pull out of Madrid due to a slight niggle of a wrist injury, but he went on to make the final of the French Open.
"He made a really difficult decision to not play; a precautionary measure in preparation for Wimbledon next week."
Djokovic, beaten by Rafel Nadal in the French Open final 10 days ago, has been undergoing constant treatment on the injury.
