Dan Cox bites the dust as Jeremy Chardy powers through to second round
DAN COX became the third Briton to be knocked out of Wimbledon after falling to defeat against Jeremy Chardy.
The Frenchman needed four sets, but prevailed 6-2, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
Chardy was in full flow from the first set with winners flying off his racket.
Cox rallied hard in the second and took it to a tie-break but lost it 7-3.
Chardy grew in confidence and finished off in style to seal his progress to the second round.
Earlier in the day, James Ward and Johanna Konta were both knocked out but defending champion Andy Murray sailed through into the second round.
