Serena Williams makes STUNNING Roger Federer retirement claim
SERENA WILLIAMS has sensationally claimed she will play tennis for as long as Roger Federer does.
Williams beat Arantxa Rus in her opening Wimbledon match this afternoon.
The American is seeded for the first time since giving birth to her first child over 12 months ago.
Williams and Federer are both 36 years old and have a total of 43 Grand Slam titles between them.
But Williams has three more major tournament wins than her male rival and she wants to also beat his legacy of playing until an older age, too.
“Oh, I'm just playing until Roger stops,” Williams said.
Well, here I am. We in it. We in it together. As long as he's here, I'm going to try to be here
“So... Gosh, how long? Did he put a time limit on it?
“He said how many more years he's going?
“Well, here I am. We in it. We in it together. As long as he's here, I'm going to try to be here.”
Williams’ return to Wimbledon was her first match back since being married.
And the former world No 1 did not even realise the difference in the umpire calling her Mrs Williams.
“You know, it still doesn't register that I'm married actually,” she added.
“It's just crazy (laughter). So much has happened in the past 12 months.
“Gosh, yeah. So I don't know. I clearly didn't think about it.
“I'll have to think about it next time. Well, I won't think about it, I'll just be out there, yeah.”
