A SWIMMING holiday doesn't have to mean going overseas, with plenty of opportunities to take a dip in the UK. The best wild swimming locations could be closer than Britons think.
Simon Calder offers advice on booking staycations for 2021
What are the best wild swimming locations in the UK? The popularity of staycations is showing no sign of abating, but Britons holidaying in the country may still want to go swimming.
To go wild swimming is to go swimming in natural waters like lakes and rivers.
While many will head to the coasts and will enjoy a dip in the sea, Britons staying inland may feel like they’re missing out.
A spokesperson from LeaseCar said: “With more Brits staying in the UK this summer, wild swimming is another activity you can try and one where you may not be surrounded by hundreds of other people."
They continued: “You can take some really beautiful drives down to these swimming locations which will make you feel like you’re abroad. It’s the perfect day trip out especially when the weather is scorching.”

Anyone deciding to swim into a lake or river should check beforehand whether it is ok to do so.
Not every body of water is suitable for a dip.
Once holidaymakers have made sure they can go in, they should also remember that wild swimming almost always means cold water.
Jumping in could have serious health implication, as the body could go into shock.
It’s always better to check the water and to enter slowly.
The spokesperson warned: “You can’t just swim in any natural waters though, there are some dangers to consider like sailboats and the depth of water which is why we’ve researched some of the best and safest places that do allow wild swimming.”
For holidaymakers ready to take the – very slow – plunge, the best wild swimming locations in the UK have been researched by LeaseCar.
