The abandoned theme park that’s a forbidden attraction
An eerie abandoned water park in Vietnam has become an attraction for backpackers and intrepid explorers.
Abandoned buildings often hold a sense of mystery as nature takes over a site once used by humans.
An abandoned waterpark in Vietnam has caught the attention of backpackers and explorers due to its state.
The Ho Thuy Tien waterpark on the outskirts of Hue in Vietnam, Asia, opened in 2004 to encourage tourists to visit the region.
However, the park closed after just a few months before reopening again in 2006. Unfortunately the theme park failed to attract enough visitors to stay open and was shut down in 2011.
Although access to the site isn’t allowed officially, some tourists have paid local residents to let them in or sneaked in past the guard.
One tourist who visited the site wrote on Tripadvisor: “The place is really amazing! Feels like some post-apocalyptic world!”
The abandoned park has rusty waterslides, an empty lazy river and a huge rusted metal dragon in the middle of a lake.
Tourists shouldn’t visit the park as it’s a dangerous site due to its abandoned state. However, there are lots of photos of the abandoned park online.

According to reports, some local residents believe the park is cursed which is why it failed to ever get going.
But why are people so attracted to abandoned places?
Oliver Smith, author of The Atlas of Abandoned Places, previously told Express.co.uk: “We’re seeing them as premonitions in a way in an age where we’re confronted by catastrophe in many different directions.
“I think imagining a future without people is ranked quite highly among the reasons why people visit.”
While the Ho Thuy Tien waterpark is off limits to visitors, tourists can explore other abandoned places around the globe such as the Buzludzha Monument in Bulgaria. The monument was built by the communist government and was then abandoned.
