European destination ranked best Easter getaway due to hot climate and beautiful cities
A beautiful European country has been voted the most popular destination for a last-minute Easter getaway due to its warm climate, but many are turning to a neighbouring nation.
The travel insurance provider Staysure has found the most popular destinations for a last-minute Easter getaway, with many offering a hot climate and plenty of culture.
With the Easter weekend just around the corner, many tourists are looking to book a last-minute break that offers a change of scenery and some long-awaited sunshine.
Simon McCulloch, Chief Commercial Officer at Staysure, noted that the Easter break is typically the opportunity of the year to travel.
He explained: "The long Easter weekend marks the start of the peak season for travel, with people jetting off across Europe in their thousands throughout April.
"This year, customer confidence is high and it's fantastic to see so many people taking the opportunity to get away for some much-needed sun, or to soak up local culture."
According to Staysure, the most popular destination for an Easter holiday is Spain, offering a drier and warmer climate during spring.
The company noted that one of the most significant reasons why Spain is so popular as a holiday destination is due to its variety, offering a mix of world-renowned city breaks, such as Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, and peaceful coastal towns on the Costa del Sol
However, the UK's love of Spain goes beyond the mainland, with the Canary Islands coming in second place and the Balearic Islands ranking seventh, due to their near-constant sea views and attractive small towns and villages.

The study also found that more tourists are turning to Portugal for their Easter getaway, overtaking countries such as the United States, France and Italy.
Offering a similar climate to Spain, Portugal does not have the same variety of large cities, but has plenty of scenic beaches and peaceful towns in which tourists can soak up the local culture.
In addition, Portugal is one of the cheapest countries to visit in Europe, with hotels costing as little as £36 per night and a meal for two typically priced at £26.
