Brancaster is a small village on the coast of North Norfolk in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has a population of around 800.
It is popular among daytrippers and holidaymakers for its beautiful beach and nearby nature reserves. It is also one of the most sought-after places to buy a home in Norfolk.
The village is home to one of the best circular walks in the UK. The Brancaster Staithe Circular Walk featured in the Telegraph’s top 15 in Britain.
It is five miles long and “easy”, going from Brancaster to Burnham Deepdale and Barrow Common and considered the best for bird flocks and food stops.
The newspaper said it is “small but mighty” with highlights of “big sea views” and fresh seafood spots.
Brancaster is known for its seafood, with mussels, oysters, lobster and crab all caught in the nearby bay. There are a number of restaurants which showcase it such as the Crab Hut and the White Horse.
The sandy beach is wide, with dunes to explore. When the tide is out you can see an old shipwreck, the remains of SS Vina. The cargo ship, built in 1894, was used by the RAF for target practice before the Normandy landing.

Afterwards, the vessel was dragged to a sand bank in Brancaster Staithe Harbour, where, full of shell holes, she sank.
To visit in the nearby area is Branodunum - a Scheduled Ancient Monument that was once a Roman army fort and is now a grassy meadow, Brancaster Estate - a National Trust site, Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve and more.
Those wishing to visit Brancaster can get there by car via the A148 and the A149 or by bus from Norwich. There are a number of places to stay in and around the village such as hotels and holiday lets.
