The Zero Theorem: The first official, and very colorful, images from The Zero Theorem have been released. Christoph Waltz stars, though with his head shaved bald, you may not recognize the two-time Academy Award winner; the frequently brilliant Terry Gilliam (Brazil) directed. While neither Waltz nor Gilliam made the trip to San Diego, the first 10 minutes of the movie were shown at the conclusion of a panel; one observer called it "weird, unique." Avengelyne: A perfect marriage of movies and comics was achieved in the announcement that Rob Liefeld's 1995 Avengelyne will be coming to the big screen. The legendary Liefeld, who created X-Force, Deadpool and other characters for Marvel before cofounding Image Comics, will team with Gina Carano (Haywire, Fast & Furious 6); the story revolves around an fallen angel, demons and monsters, and reportedly is "intended in the vein of Underworld," for all you vampires-vs.-werewolves fans. How to Train Your Dragon 2: As a reminder that Comic-Con appeals to geeks and nerds of all ages, DreamWorks Animation announced that Cate Blanchett, Djimon Hounsou and Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) will join the voice cast for the upcoming sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2, which is due in theaters on June 20, 2014. The trio will play a vigilante warrior, a villain, and a dragon trapper, respectively. A gorgeous, soaring teaser was recently released for the movie. [Deadline]
Continuum: Everyone wants to get in on the comic book-movie craze, and that includes distributor Relativity. The company has acquired the time-traveling sci-fi graphic novel Continuum, which imagines Earth 175 years in the future, devastated by war. One day, it's discovered that a "rift" in the solar system allows for a one-way mission back to the moment when the war can be prevented. Greg Russo, an in-demand writer who has sold numerous scripts but has yet to see one made into a movie -- a not uncommon occurrence -- has been hired to write the screenplay. [Deadline]
