Imagine being five, on a train with only your older brother. Then imagine waking up on the train more than a thousand miles from home, unable to tell anyone where you live or who you are.
That's the true story of Lion, in which a 5-year-old Indian boy gets separated from his brother and winds up 1,600 km from home in Calcutta, where nobody recognizes his language. With no paper trail or identity, he drifts from place to place for years -- eventually ending up with a kind Australian couple living in Tasmania. Around age 30, Saroo sets out to find his family in India.
In this week's episode, Alicia Malone talks to Dev Patel, who plays the older Saroo, about the character's agonizing -- and liberating -- experiences. Check it out in the video below.
