As you may know, last week Patty Jenkins was relieved of directing duties for Thor 2. Now Natalie Portman, who is contractually obligated to appear in the sequel, is reportedly furious about it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Portman was actually considering taking a break from acting for a while (mostly to spend time with her recently first-born child), but that Jenkins' involvement had reinvigorated her interest in the project. Portman also lobbied for Jenkins to direct and made no secret that she was proud to be a part of the first female-driven Hollywood mega-blockbuster.
Sources close to the removal aren't very specific with reasons ranging from Jenkins not being decisive enough in getting the film made to Marvel giving her too many creative constraints. Jenkins' only feature film credit is the 2003 drama Monster, which earned Charlize Theron an Oscar.
Marvel is now turning to Game of Thrones and is considering both Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan as replacements. Marvel is also reportedly trying to put Portman at ease by including her in the decision-making process.
Thor 2 is not set to release until November 2013, so there's still plenty of time to sort things out. Kenneth Branagh, who directed the first Thor has already said that he would not direct the sequel. Should Marvel look to bring a seasoned director along the lines of Joss Whedon or Jon Favreau in or should TV directors Taylor and Minahan be given a chance
