We've officially entered the month of June, and pretty soon the summer movie season will be half over. Yup, time flies when you're watching robots and Trekkies do battle. This week we have three new films competing for that top spot alongside those heavy-hitters still in theaters. Let's take a look at the competition:

Land of the Lost
What's the Scoop: Based on the old 70s TV show, this new updated cinematic version stars Will Ferrell as a nutty scientist who journeys with Anna Friel and Danny McBride to an alternate dimension where all sorts of crazy dangerous creatures await them.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Will Ferrell doing wacky things on camera is worth at least (in theory) a solid $25-35 million. Throw in all the special effects, and we could have a contender…

The Hangover
What's the Scoop: A bachelor party in Las Vegas goes terribly wrong when three groomsmen wake up the next morning with no groom, a tiger in the bathroom, a little baby and…Mike Tyson?
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Fans of Old School will surely be happy to see director Todd Phillips returning to his vintage, R-rated foul-mouthedness. That, coupled with the fact that the film is getting tons of buzz, could help propel this funny movie into the top spot.

My Life in Ruins
What's the Scoop: My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Nia Vardalos stars in this romantic comedy about a traveling tour guide who rediscovers her romantic side while in Greece.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: If there's a secret My Big Fat Greek Wedding fan club out there that currently boasts millions of loyal members, then perhaps this flick has a chance.

Still in theaters, however, and currently responsible for 44% of all ticket sales on Fandango is Pixar's Up, which is sure to use its great word-of-mouth to try to secure another weekend in the top spot. But don't count out The Hangover, which, at 22% of all sales, is slowly climbing. Look for those two to battle it out for your hard-earned dollars. My prediction: Up.
