What is The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming! (1966) about?
Director Norman Jewison's warm-hearted satire tracks the crew of a Russian sub (headed up by a delightful Alan Arkin, Theodore Bikel and John Philip Law) who inadvertentaly scuttle their craft on the beach of Gloucester Island, sending the local inhabitants – all of them possessed of Cold War paranoia – into a tizzy. Carl Reiner and Eva Marie Saint head a phemonenal cast as the Whitakers, a couple who interact with the accidental invaders, with Brian Keith as the police chief, Jonathan Winters as his clueless deputy and Paul Ford as a pompous, retired military officer.
