SESAR solution to enhance safety of mixed air traffic in Europe
Rotorcraft and general aviation fly at different speeds and altitude to commercial traffic, making the management of the traffic more complex. Flight trials conducted by SESAR members are showing how advanced approach and departure procedures can enable more efficient mixed air traffic operations, especially in adverse weather.

Smells like ‘team’ spirit: SESAR addresses air traffic congestion
SESAR members recently tested several new air traffic management functionalities aimed at tackling congestion in Europe’s skies. These functionalities aim to enable airlines to share their preferences and feedback with flow managers, and work collaboratively on finding alternative solutions to address traffic delays and congestion.
Euronews puts air traffic management under the spotlight
SESAR and ATM modernisation were the subject of a recent episode of FUTURIS, a technology programme from Euronews, the European TV news network. In January, a film crew paid a visit to HungaroControl to see its remote tower installation and a validation exercise on flight-centric operations – two examples of SESAR innovations.
SESAR tests a dynamic approach to taxiway traffic lights
SESAR JU member, ENAV, has successfully concluded a validation campaign to assess dynamic virtual block control with the support of datalink communications. The aim of the solution is to improve the safety and efficiency of traffic on the surface of the airport, particularly in low-visibility conditions.
