Project of the month: SESAR tests drone surveillance system
Live demonstrations recently kicked off as part of the CLASS or CLear Air Situation for uaS, a project co-funded by the SESAR Joint Undertaking in support of the safe and secure integration of drones.The project is developing a surveillance system to track in real-time both cooperative and non-cooperative drones.
SESAR establishes U-space demonstrators across Europe
A series of drone demonstrations will soon get underway at urban and rural locations across Europe, which aim to illustrate that Europe is on course with its implementation of U-space. The new demos coincide with the launch by the European Commission of a EU network for drone demonstrators.
Modernisation on a global scale: SESAR at ICAO ANC 13
The SESAR Joint Undertaking joined European and international partners at the 13th Air Navigation Conference of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) between 9-19 October in Montreal. Over the course of the 10 days, the JU and its members contributed to discussions which focused on the major transformation taking place in aviation today.
SESAR Innovation Days: Registrations are now open!
Details of how to register for this year’s SIDs as well as the latest agenda are now available. Hosted by University of Salzburg, Austria, the event will present the latest on SESAR exploratory research and will feature the Young Scientist Award. This year’s edition also features tours showcasing ATM/aviation research in action.
Exploring the boundaries of air traffic management
The SESAR JU has published the results of the first wave of exploratory research projects. The projects explored innovations and technologies coming not just from aviation and ATM, but also other sectors, such as automotive, robotics, as well as in other safety critical industries.
WANTED: Pilots for GAINS flight trials
General Aviation Improvements in Navigation and Surveillance (GAINS), a SESAR very large-scale demo, is seeking expressions of interest from pilots to participate in flight trials. The trials are due to take place between October-December 2018 and between March-September 2019.
SESAR KTN, Engage, Call for catalyst funding proposals opening soon
The Call for proposals funded by catalyst funding will be open on the Engage website by 16 November. The focus is on maturing exploratory research further towards applications and operational contexts. Projects will run for 12 months, with a ‘light-touch’ reporting approach, and up to EUR 60k funding per project. Proposals may be aligned with the Engage thematic challenges and there are still places available on some of the corresponding workshops.
