Player of the Week: Alanah Girard

DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - This week’s Player of the Week recipient is Alanah Girard, a wrestler out of Daphne High School.

She was awarded the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the state championship for her performance on the mat.

Girard helped lead her team to their 3rd state title in four years. She also brought home an individual state title in the 100 weight class.

“I was really proud and I was especially proud of myself,” Girard says, “because that match was pretty scary, but I got the reversal, and I bounced back. It’s really emotional, but it’s also very exciting because I didn’t know that I was going to get this award, so just getting it made me really happy.”

Daphne Wrestling head coach Greg Jefcoat says Girard is usually pretty reserved, but on the mat, it’s a different story.

“Alanah doesn’t draw attention to herself, but she’s always got that fire in her and you can’t hide it. It’s there. When she goes out there to compete, she’s fearless. She’s relentless and it shows in everything she does. She’s a finisher.”
