MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile’s first and oldest parading group — the Order of Myths — finishes out the 2024 Mardi Gras season.

They were founded in 1867 and have been going strong ever since.

A crucial piece of their history is Folly chasing Death with pig bladders. The lesson is while Death normally wins, on Mardi Gras day, it’s Folly who takes the victory.

“It always is really sentimental to me,” said one reveler. “I love watching Folly chase Death around the pillar of life. That’s always the pinnacle of Mardi Gras for me.”

As the curtain closes on Fat Tuesday, some already can’t wait for next year.

“On to next year, we’ll be back here in February.”

The Mobile Police Department said the total crowd count for all the Fat Tuesday parades was 204,442. Police responded to 32 complaints, including three reports of lost children. Sixty-six parking citations were issued and 31 vehicles were towed.
