Several area school systems announce delayed starts on Friday due to weather

(WALA) - A number of area school systems have announced planned delayed starts on Friday due to the threat of severe weather along the Gulf Coast.

  • Okaloosa County Schools - All North End Schools are canceled today due to the severe weather that came through Okaloosa County this morning which caused wide spread power outages as well as downed trees and power lines.The following schools will be closed today. Antioch Elementary School, Baker School, Bob Sikes Elementary School, Crestview High School, Davidson Middle School, Laurel Hill School, Northwood Elementary School, Richbourg School, Riverside Elementary School, Shoal River Middle School, Southside Primary School, Walker Elementary School: All Central and South Zone Schools will be open and start 3 hours later than their regular times. All school district maintenance crews, administrators, and power providers are working diligently to restore power throughout the county. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding.
  • Mobile County Public Schools - Due to power outages and road conditions, buses may be delayed in some areas this morning. Therefore, tardies will not count today. Please make every effort to come to school today so we can finish the year strong.
  • Satsuma City Schools Due to power outages, Satsuma City Schools is delaying the start of school by two hours. Buses will pick students up exactly two hours later than usual.
  • Escambia County Public Schools will delay the start of classes by one hour. Morning bus routes will also be delayed by one hour. All scheduled before-school activities are canceled.
  • Santa Rosa Schools will be on a two-hour delay. Normal dismissal is expected. All before-school activities and school-related activities affected by the weather delay are canceled. Field trips, state assessments, and AP exams will be rescheduled (if applicable). Schools will not have breakfast because of the delay, but schools will serve lunch as normal.
