MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Living on the Gulf Coast, we all know just how hot it can get in the summer months. Today, we’re using an infrared thermal imager to determine if sun shades really keep your car cool. We’re using a couple of our FOX10 News vehicles to demonstrate.

The first vehicle doesn’t have a sun shade. Cracking the door open, the temperature spiked at 120 degrees before reaching an average temp of 115 degrees. The second car, our FOX10 STORMtracker vehicle, did have the sun shade inside. It made a tremendous difference. Peaking at 104 degrees, its average temperature reached 95 degrees Fahrenheit. An over 20 degree difference.

These sun shades can definitely make a difference.
