MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - The City of Moss Point is launching a new program to increase public safety for all drivers on city roadways and to make the community safer for all residents.

Moss Point Police Department officers will now be using cutting-edge technology including handheld radar cameras to check for vehicles speeding. Drivers exceeding posted speed limits will receive an official citation in the mail including the date, time, location, and license plate photo evidence of the speeding infraction.

The mailed citation will allow offenders to participate in a diversion program to address their speeding ticket. By participating in the diversion program, including an online driver safety component, the offender will pay a reduced fine and the ticket will not go on their driving record.

If the offender wishes to contest the citation, they maintain the legal right to do that at an assigned court date.

“To make sure we have safer streets for everyone in our city, we are taking extra steps and giving our police officers better resources to address the problem of speeding,” Moss Point’s Mayor Billy Knight, Sr. stated. “This new initiative will increase public safety for our citizens, visitors, and the entire community.”
