BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - After reports of gunshots rang out during a rally for former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, leaders in Alabama are reacting to the news.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey says that she is praying for a swift recovery.

Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, along with other Alabama leaders, say that they are praying for Trump.

The secret service jumped into action as soon as shots rang out at the rally. Powerful video and photos are circling of multiple agents surrounding the former president in only seconds. A retired secret service agent giving us some insight and saying their quick action was noticed.

“We have a term where we would say, ‘Minimum to the problem, maximum to the protectee’ and the one thing that I saw: the number of agents that shielded former president Trump that was on that stage, at that podium and it looked like when he initially went down, they looked as if they was doing a quick assessment of what had transpired,” said Michael Williams, retired U.S. Secret Service Birmingham Special Agent in Charge.

Now we’re in the early stages of a very large investigation into what officials are calling an assassination attempt on the former president. A lot of people asking questions right now but a former assistant secretary of U-S Homeland Security says it’s all about getting accurate information.

“In this particular case, I think it’ll take us just a little bit longer to see the actually factual information come out,” said Ted Sexton, retired sheriff and former Asst. Secretary of US Homeland Security. “I think by tomorrow afternoon or certainly by Monday, I think we will have a very factual, chronological order from the Secret Service. I don’t think this is information that they want to withhold from the public. I believe they truly want to get it correct.”
