BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Many Alabama leaders plan to attend the Republican National Convention after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Alongside the state’s GOP delegates, Senator Katie Britt is scheduled to be a prime-time speaker.

Alabama GOP Chairman John Wahl and Congressman Robert Aderholt will also be in attendance. Aderholt said he planned to fly out Sunday and expects it will be safe.

“I would expect that it will probably be one of the tightest secured conventions that we’ve seen in many, many years,” Aderholt shared. “Not only for the Republicans, but also I would expect the same for the Democrats when they go to Chicago next month.”

Police officers and roadblocks can already be seen in Milwaukee.

The RNC Coordinator for the Secret Service said they feel confident with their security plans, preparing for 18 months, so they will not be changing protocol.

The FBI said there have been no specific threats made to the RNC. The Bureau is encouraging anyone who hears of threats to report it to them or local police.
