2024 MLB Power Rankings: Yankees or Red Sox? Orioles or Phillies?

Maybe it's that time of the year. As we zoom past the halfway point of the season, some of baseball's top teams are stumbling into the All-Star break.

And then there's the Yankees, who continue to tumble after once holding the MLB's best record.

Without further ado, here's my newest top 10, with World Series odds via FanDuel Sportsbook.

10. San Diego Padres (49-45, LW 9)
World Series odds: +4000

The Padres didn't have the best showing against the Diamondbacks over the weekend, losing two of three as the wild-card battle between the division rivals heats up. Still, San Diego sits in a good spot as it learned it'll be sending five players (Jurickson Profar, Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Arráez, Jackson Merrill, Robert Suarez) to the All-Star Game.

9. Boston Red Sox (49-40, LW unranked)
World Series odds: +5000

The Red Sox are making it hard to justify not buying at the trade deadline. They've been one of baseball's best teams since the start of June, winning 16 of their past 22 and taking two of three from the Yankees in The Bronx over the weekend. They snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat Friday before Rafael Devers hit two more home runs in a 3-0 win Sunday. Devers is hitting .316 with a 1.079 OPS and 11 homers in his past 30 games, helping him get an All-Star nod alongside teammates Tanner Houck and Jarren Duran.

8. Atlanta Braves (49-39, LW 8)
World Series odds: +900

If the Braves can claw their way back into the NL East race, their series win over the Phillies this weekend might be a pivotal moment they look back on. Regardless, hats off to Chris Sale continuing his incredible comeback with his first All-Star selection in six years after it looked like his career would be derailed by injuries for good.

7. New York Yankees (55-37, LW 5)
World Series odds: +500

Is it panic time in the Bronx? The Yankees are 1-5 over their past six games, including a sweep at home to the Cincinnati Reds. For the second straight week, Aaron Boone has had to call out a player for a seeming lack of hustle after the sloppy defense of Trent Grisham — a defensive specialist — in Thursday's loss. Oh, and now Aaron Judge's hitting coach appears to be shading the team on social media. The All-Star break can't come soon enough for these Yankees.

6. Minnesota Twins (51-39, LW 7)
World Series odds: +2000

The Guardians and Royals might be sending more All-Stars to Texas, but the Twins just took two out of three from the white-hot Astros in Houston and enter this week just six games behind Cleveland and three games ahead of Kansas City for second place in the AL Central. Minnesota has a golden opportunity to climb further with a series against the White Sox over the next few days.

5. Milwaukee Brewers (53-38, LW 6)
World Series odds: +2500

Milwaukee's 3-4 record this week is a little misleading: Of those four losses, three were by one run, and the fourth required a Dodgers eighth-inning rally and three home runs from Will Smith on Friday. Still, with the Cardinals failing to break through, the Cubs in free fall and the young, exciting Pirates and Reds still seemingly a ways from contending, treading water is good enough for Pat Murphy's squad in the NL Central.

4. Los Angeles Dodgers (55-36, LW 4)
World Series odds: +300

The Dodgers are in a weird spot right now. Shohei Ohtani is somehow maybe even better than advertised at the plate, and L.A.'s other (healthy) stars are playing like ones. But the starting rotation has grown inconsistent, the lineup depth is still an issue, and it's going to be hard to truly judge this team as an October contender until more players, especially Mookie Betts, get healthy.

3. Cleveland Guardians (56-32, LW 3)
World Series odds: +2000

If you had the Guardians leading all American League teams with five All-Star nods before the season, please feel free to send me your lottery numbers this week. Cleveland has been a bit uneven over the past week and a half, but can get itself back on track before the break with series against the Tigers and Rays.

2. Philadelphia Phillies (58-32, LW 1)
World Series odds: +500

The Phillies could use depth in their pitching staff and in their outfield, but they mostly deserve praise for the franchise record seven players they're sending to the All-Star Game. Breakout stars Ranger Suárez and Alec Bohm have been just as vital to Philadelphia's big first half as household names like Bryce Harper and Trea Turner.

1. Baltimore Orioles (57-33, LW 2)
World Series odds: +700

The Orioles finally seized control of the AL East as the Yankees' issues didn't show any signs of stopping. Baltimore will get another chance at expanding its lead over New York with a pre-All-Star-break series this weekend. The Orioles need rotation depth, even with ace Corbin Burnes off to the All-Star Game, and it remains to be seen whether that will come from their loaded farm system or the trade market. Also, when will Jackson Holliday get another shot in the big leagues?
