2024-25 NFL MVP odds, picks: Mahomes favored, can he win third MVP trophy?

Updated Jul. 26, 2024 3:35 p.m. ET

Can Patrick Mahomes follow up his third Super Bowl MVP performance by claiming the NFL MVP Award for a third time next season?

After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a win in Super Bowl LVIII, Mahomes opened as the early favorite to be the MVP of the 2024-25 season at +600. Over five months later, his odds are even lower, as he now sits at +475 to win the award.

Right behind Mahomes is — surprisingly — Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud at +850.

Reigning MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens is tied for fifth with Green Bay's Jordan Love at +1400. In front of them are Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen and Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow, who are tied at +900, respectively.

Lastly, one other young quarterback has made a slight jump up the betting board.

After opening at +3500, Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson's MVP odds have shortened to +3000.

Richardson threw for 577 yards, ran for another 136 and totaled seven touchdowns in the four games he started. He exited two of those four games early with injury, including a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 5 of his rookie campaign.

Let's take a full look at the updated MVP betting board at DraftKings Sportsbook as of July 24.

2024-25 NFL MVP ODDS:

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs: +475 (bet $10 to win $57.50 total)
C.J. Stroud, Texans: +850 (bet $10 to win $95 total)
Josh Allen, Bills: +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total)
Joe Burrow, Bengals: +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total)
Jordan Love, Packers: +1400 (bet $10 to win $150 total)
Lamar Jackson, Ravens: +1400 (bet $10 to win $150 total)
Jalen Hurts, Eagles: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)
Brock Purdy, 49ers: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total)
Aaron Rodgers, Jets: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total)
Dak Prescott, Cowboys: +1700 (bet $10 to win $180 total)
Jared Goff, Lions: +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total)
Justin Herbert, Chargers: +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total)
Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)
Anthony Richardson, Colts: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)
Matthew Stafford, Rams: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)
Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)
Kirk Cousins, Falcons: +3500 (bet $10 to win $360 total)

Quarterbacks normally dominate the MVP odds list, as is this the case again this year.

The non-QB with the shortest odds is San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey at +4000, followed by Tyreek Hill at +7500.

Is C.J. Stroud already a top-5 QB in the NFL?

Stroud being second on the board might surprise some, but the star QB is entering his second year in the league with lofty expectations.

As a rookie, he was 9-6 as a starter and led the Texans to the AFC divisional round, where they lost to Jackson's Ravens in Baltimore.

Last season, Stroud threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions, while completing 63.9% of his passes. That was with his top two receivers being third-year pro Nico Collins and fellow rookie Tank Dell

Now, Stroud will not only have Collins and Dell catching passes, but four-time Pro-Bowler and former first team All-Pro selection Stefon Diggs will join the fray, after the Texans traded for him back in April.

As for best bets for the award, FOX Sports betting expert Jason McIntyre has you covered with his three best bets for NFL MVP:

Here are two things we know about NFL MVP: the last non-QB to win the award was Adrian Peterson in 2012, and, before that, it was LaDainian Tomlinson (2006).

To tally that up, 16 of the last 18 winners have been quarterbacks.

Last year, Lamar Jackson had 15-1 odds to win the MVP and ended up stealing it with a December surge past … Brock Purdy.

Here are three guys I’m taking a flier on this year*:

Jalen Hurts

The addition of Saquon Barkley could have a massive impact on the offense, similar to how Christian McCaffrey transformed the 49ers. The schedule for Hurts is very favorable, and the Eagles could lead the league in offense. Hurts may be the best QB in the NFC by midseason, and these odds will shrink, so take them now.

PICK: Jalen Hurts to win 2024 NFL MVP (+1500)

Jared Goff

The media seems to really like Goff, or perhaps it’s his awesome story of redemption — kicked to the curb by the Rams, and then gets to within 3 points of a Super Bowl with the "lowly Lions".

Goff may not be a top-3 player for the Lions, but if Detroit wins 12 to 13 games, he’ll certainly be in the discussion.

PICK: Jared Goff to win 2024 NFL MVP (+2000)

Colts RB Zack Moss talks Anthony Richardson & Shane Steichen's greatness

Anthony Richardson

He's a long-shot bet, especially for a 22-year-old who played in four games and threw three TD passes. But, he’s got one of the best young play-callers in Shane Steichen, and the late-season schedule is perhaps the weakest in the NFL: at New England, bye, at Denver, vs. Tennessee, at Giants, vs. Jaguars.

A 5-0 finishing kick could get them to 11 wins, which would vault him firmly in the mix for the MVP.

PICK: Anthony Richardson to win 2024 NFL MVP (+3000)
