Luke Swetland was the son of John Oliver and Sarah (Davis) Treadway Swetland. He was the husband of Hannah (Tiffany) Swetland. They were married April 1, 1762. Hannah died January 8, 1809. Luke died at the home of his grandson, William Swetland. Luke served during the Revolutionary War.

          GRANDFATHER OF WILLIAM SWETLAND
  Settling in Wyoming (PA) in 1769 was taken prisoner after 

the Wyoming Massacre (3 July 1778) and after a years captivity

      and endured hardships among the Indians escaped to 
          Sullivan's Army and thence rejoined his family 
         who had fled to their former home in Connecticut.  
             BELDING SWETLAND, father of WILLIAM 
          leaving the fort near this spot after its surrender 
           though but a lad yet the eldest of the children 
              heroically piloted the family in their flight 
              through the forests to their eastern home.  
             WILLIAM SWETLAND was born in Sharon, 
            Connecticut.  His grandfather and father with 
             their families returned to Wyoming in 1794 

and located where William Swetland thereafter
lived and where he died in Christian triumph.
