Find A Grave (www.findagrave.com) is a free online crowd-sourced resource for finding the final resting place of family, friends, and famous individuals. With millions of names and photos, it is an invaluable tool for the genealogist and the family history buff. It is not considered an authoritative reference.

Content and features

Find A Grave memorials can contain rich content including photos, biographies and dates. Members can submit listings to the website and place requests for photographs of grave marker. Fulfilling requests is encouraged and deeply appreciated. Visitors can also submit notations, virtual flowers, flags, religious symbols, etc., which are posted on the individual listings.

Remember that while facts can be copied freely, you should not copy biographies from Find-A-Grave without permission. There are many managers that create the memorials as a testament to their relatives and are willing to share their work and photographs. Their personal biography provides permission to copy. Find a grave managers are thanked for their contributions to genealogy and history.

Note also that photographs are copyright-protected property of the original photographer. See this external link for more on the legal issues; the responses to the comments provide additional clarification about photographs.
