WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Joe Biden weighed in Monday on the Supreme Court’s ruling granting partial immunity to former President Donald Trump.

The president blasted the decision and gave a stark warning from the White House about what a potential second term could look like for Trump.

“This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America. Each, each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law. Not even the President of United States,” said Biden.

In a 6-3 decision along ideological lines, the Supreme Court ruled Trump can have absolute immunity from future prosecution for any official acts he made while in office. It reversed a lower court’s decision that said Trump did not have any immunity related to crimes he may have committed in regard to the 2020 election.

President Biden said, “The American people deserve to have an answer in the courts before the upcoming election. The public has a right to know the answer about what happened on January 6th before they are asked to vote again this year. Now, because of today’s decision, that is highly, highly unlikely.”

The president called on the American people to render a judgement about Trump’s behavior and whether he is unfit for office. He also ended his address by referencing Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent opinion.

“With fear for our democracy, I dissent. End of quote. So should the American people dissent. I dissent.”

President Biden has made protecting democracy the central part of his re-election bid. A Trump campaign spokesperson responded to Biden’s remarks by saying his “insane attack on the Supreme Court is a Threat to Democracy.”
