WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - J.D. Vance, the freshman Senator from Ohio and former Marine is Donald Trump’s pick for Vice President.

Here are three things you need to know.

Number one: Vance has deep ties to both Appalachia and Silicon Valley.

He rose to prominence for his novel “Hillbilly Elegy,” which was adapted into film. It’s the story of rural America through the eyes of poverty. Later in life, he moved to San Francisco, planting roots in the tech industry as a venture capitalist.

Number two: Vance’s politics.

He is a populist Republican who saw globalization’s effects on small communities firsthand. Born in Middletown Ohio, he wrote of seeing his once-thriving manufacturing town shrink and wither after jobs and production were moved abroad. He has said he’s pro-tariff and anti-green jobs that come at the expense of the industrial heartland.

Finally, what does this mean for the campaign? We’re about to see a lot more of J.D. Vance.

President Trump’s son Don Jr. said part of the reason Vance was picked was because he’s good on camera. He’ll now hit the campaign trail with his running mate, espousing Trump’s messaging.
