Trump classified documents case dismissed

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - A Florida Judge dismissed former President Donald Trump’s federal classified documents case Monday, agreeing with the defense’s argument that appointing a special counsel was illegal.

The legal news continues to get better for Trump. Just two days after surviving an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, the former president’s classified documents case in Florida was dismissed.

The 37 felony charges for mishandling documents after leaving office were thrown out, with Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon saying the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith was unlawful under the Appointments Clause of the Constitution.

Cannon argued Attorney General Merrick Garland had no right to appoint a special counsel in this case. A former assistant U.S. Attorney said the Justice Department can appeal to the 11th Circuit or issue a new indictment with different attorneys as the facts of the case are unchanged.

He also said there is a chance this case goes all the way to the Supreme Court. Trump said on social media the dismissal should just be the first step, followed by the dismissal of all of his cases. Already convicted in New York on 34 felony charges, Trump faces dozens more across cases in DC, Georgia, and the currently dismissed Florida trial.
