Despite the hand flex heard round the world, Matthew Macfadyen doesn’t believe he fully embodied Mr. Darcy in Joe Wright’s “Pride & Prejudice.”
The 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s iconic 1813 novel starred Macfadyen and Keira Knightley as the enemies to lovers British duo. The feature landed four Oscar nominations, including Best Actress for Knightley.
However, Macfadyen hadn’t “enjoyed” the production of the film, mostly because he believed he was miscast, especially following Colin Firth’s performance as the iconic romantic lead 10 years earlier in the 1995 BBC miniseries.
“I didn’t really [enjoy it],” the “Succession” Emmy winner said of his time making the film during “CBS Mornings” in the below video. “I feel bad saying that. There were moments I had a good time, but I wish I enjoyed it more. I wish I was less worried about it.”
Macfadyen continued, “I felt a bit miscast, like, ‘I’m not dishy enough.

Ever wonder what it’s really like to take on an iconic literary character? Emmy winner Matthew Macfadyen recently shared some surprising insights into playing Mr. Darcy in the beloved 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
In a recent interview with CBS, Macfadyen admitted that as much as he respects the story and its fans, he “didn’t really enjoy” portraying Darcy opposite Keira Knightley. At the time, he felt inadequate and said “I’m not handsome enough for this role.” Can you imagine Mr. Darcy having self-doubts?
Macfadyen, who’s now 49, followed the legendary Colin Firth who played Darcy in the 1995 miniseries. He said later he and Firth “swapped stories for hours” about the pressures of the part. It makes sense – Darcy is one of the most famous romantic leads ever.

Matthew Macfadyen is opening up about why he “didn’t really enjoy” his role as Mr. Darcy in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice.
The Emmy-winning actor looked back at the film where he starred opposite Keira Knightley during an interview with CBS Mornings on Tuesday morning.
“I didn’t really [enjoy it],” he admitted. “I feel bad saying that. There were moments I had a good time, but I wish I enjoyed it more. I wish I was less worried about it.”
Macfadyen added that he didn’t feel like he was the right choice for the role of Mr. Darcy. “I felt a bit miscast, like, ‘I’m not dishy enough,'” the Deadpool & Wolverine actor said. “But it worked out.”
And it sure did, as the movie went on to score four Oscar nominations. The British actor also confessed that he still gets excited when he’s recognized as Mr.

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is currently filming, and a fresh piece of casting news has come to light. Possible spoiler.
Spoilers for the Bridget Jones films lie ahead.
Helen Fielding’s big knicker wearing, perennial singleton Bridget Jones, as played by Renee Zellweger, has headlined three feature films so far – 2001’s Bridget Jones’ Diary, 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason and 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby.
The first film followed Bridget as she struck up a relationship with the smarmy, charming Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant, not realising that her perfect match is Mark Darcy. Darcy of course was played, in an inspired piece of casting, by Colin Firth – the pathetic fist fights between the two men stand as highlights of both films.
The second sees Bridget once again taken in by Cleaver’ charms in Thailand, before she ends up in prison. The third film sees Bridget end up pregnant,...

The James Bond jetpack sequence in “Thunderball” (1965) was a cheesy-awesome thing that was like, “Whoa! The future will be jetpacks!” “My Spy the Eternal City” opens like a Bond film, or maybe a movie whose goal is to make the “Kingsman” series look weighty. Dave Bautista’s JJ, a former Special Forces soldier turned CIA operative, is on a private plane, where he’s playing bodyguard to a teen idol named Ryan (Bill Barratt). Out of the blue, he’s attacked by the flight attendant. As they go at each other with sharp objects, a helmeted figure zips through the sky in a jetpack, placing a bomb on one of the plane’s windows and blowing a hole in its side; everyone comes tumbling out, and a plunging-to-the-earth scuffle ensues.
The hook? The jetpack flier is Sophie (Chloe Coleman), a 14-year-old spy. While falling through the air and rescuing JJ,...

As part of its efforts to spotlight American independent cinema, the Criterion Channel is now streaming A Single Man, that 2009 Christopher Isherwood adaptation that saw Tom Ford step away from the fashion atelier and into the film set. Terminally stylish, the picture proposes a study on grief that appears deadened itself. Stretch your senses and you'll feel the cold of cadaver skin buried under powders meant to give back the blush of life. And as much as your nose might search for rot, that stench has been suppressed. Instead, one inhales the aroma of mortuary makeup, the nostril-burning cleanness of embalming fluid, the floral notes from perfumed tissue paper stuffed inside the cheeks to fill them out, gift-like. It's all fake, yet its splendor can't be denied.
Within this extended perfume commercial, a couple of performances shine bright. There's Colin Firth's Oscar-nominated turn as a suicidal...

Prime Video’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes series Young Sherlock just got even cooler – Colin Firth has joined the cast! The show is based on the novels by Andy Lane and stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a younger version of the famous detective.
Firth will take on the role of Sir Bucephalus Hodge, though details on the character are still under wraps. Firth is famous for movies like The King’s Speech, which earned him an Oscar, along with Bridget Jones’s Diary and Kingsman. But he’s no stranger to television either through roles in Pride and Prejudice and The Staircase mini-series.
The show follows 19-year-old Sherlock as he gets wrapped up in his first murder case at Oxford University. With no discipline yet, he’ll have to learn on the job to solve the globe-trotting mystery.
Matthew Parkhill is writing and showrunning Young Sherlock, with Guy Ritchie set to direct some episodes.

Prime Video’s Young Sherlock series is adding another big name to its cast.
Colin Firth has joined the Guy Ritchie-directed show, which is inspired by author Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novel series. Firth joins a cast that also includes Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the title role, Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone as Sherlock’s parents and Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an.
Firth will play a character named Sir Bucephalus Hodge; details on the role are being kept quiet for now.
Young Sherlock is described as a reimagining of the iconic detective, in the spirit of Ritchie’s two Sherlock Holmes feature films. The series follows Sherlock as a 19-year-old who is “disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Universal’s animated sequel, “Despicable Me 4,” remained in the top spot at the box office this weekend with an estimated $44.7 million, down 40% from its 4th of July opening weekend, bringing its domestic total to $211.1 million. Jeff Daniels is always a reliably excellent performer whether its in comedy or drama, TV or film, and the veteran actor has turned in another masterclass performance in Netflix’s “A Man in Full.”
Adapted from Tom Wolfe‘s novel of the same name and created by “Big Little Lies” helmer David E. Kelley, “A Man in Full” follows Daniels as real estate mogul Charlie Croker, who tries to protect his empire and legacy from crumbling when he falls into sudden bankruptcy. Daniels dominated the screen here, chewing scenery, spitting it out with venom, and then re-chewing the scenery some more. Whatever you may think of the show, Daniels is never anything less than ferociously good, as noted by critics.
Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) wrote that the show “struts about with swaggering ferocity, led by Jeff Daniels’ full-bodied performance as a blustery, bloviating capitalist predator… ego is both a...

Back in 2021, the world finally saw how talented Timothée Chalamet was, the young actor who took quite the responsible role of Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. The second chapter of this epic saga is still the most high-grossing movie of 2024.
Undoubtedly, this top-tier adaptation deserves to earn all the money at the box office, however, there is a 94%-rated movie that displays Chalamet’s drama talent much better. Luckily, it’s coming to Netflix in a week, so let’s take a closer look at it.
Set in 1983 in Italy, this drama starts by introducing us to Elio, a teenage bookworm and music enthusiast. His father, an archaeology professor, invites Oliver, a 24-year-old graduate student, to live with them over the summer and help with his paperwork.
The more this summer progresses, the more time Elio and Oliver spend together, and the boy starts to question his sexuality and ideals,...

While Kevin Hart’s action is taking Prime Video’s global top by storm, now dominating in it, the movie is in fact not as good as this hype implies. Die Hart 2: Die Harter is panned for being extremely generic and even a pale copy of all genre’s staples.

Despite earning acclaim for his work, Hollywood filmmaker, Woody Allen, has continued to be a controversial figure in the industry. The filmmaker is also known for his nuanced yet problematic portrayal of women in his movies.

While he seems appreciative of women’s complexity, his portrayals always hint at underlying tension with lingering shots and camera angles that have raised concern about objectification. With access to victims’ families, investigators, intelligence officers and other key figures who had not spoken until now, the series follows the disaster from start to end and profiles who was responsible.
Lockerbie was produced by Theroux, Nancy Strang and Arron Fellows’ Mindhouse in association with Sky Studios. Directed by John Dower, it beat off competition from another Sky show, Dublin Narcos, along with Channel 4’s Evacuation and the BBC’s Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland to scoop the BAFTA for Factual Series.

It's no surprise that there isn't a single war movie that's easy to watch. Still, these films are usually adored by both critics and audiences.
First, they require a great deal of technical skill to make. Second, the amount of thought that goes into the set and costume design cannot go unnoticed. And third, the actors tend to shine the brightest in the face of dramatic dialogue and heartbreaking scenes, and there is no shortage of those when it comes to war.
If you're craving a good war movie, but don't have anything specific in mind, Netflix is ready to help with a new addition to its library.
Is 1917 Worth Watching?
Unlike many war movies, 1917 takes viewers back to World War I, not a few decades later. This alone sets 1917 apart from many other films in the genre, giving it a unique setting and rare insight into the events.

Two decades and countless rewatches later, I'm still not sure if "Love, Actually" is a good Christmas movies or if it's just the most interesting one to talk about. If you've seen the movie — or even just been online around Christmastime in the past decade — you'll know all the familiar talking points. Fans can't believe that little kid ended up in "Game of Thrones," or that anyone could call Natalie fat. They think Laura Linney's character deserved better, but also, it's good to see a movie admitting that the holidays can be heartbreaking. The Colin Firth plot still makes romantics swoon (even though it has its faults), but Alan Rickman's character is a total snake.
Every subplot of Richard Curtis' ensemble film is worth talking about, but 21 years on, it seems clear that one gets discussed more than any other: the limply written love triangle between Andrew Lincoln's Mark,...

Think The Munsters, but way more grim.
UCP is developing 1313, which has been described as a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse, aka a reimagining of the classic 1964-66 CBS sitcom The Munsters.
Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to showrun the drama. The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.
Executive producers are Beer and Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Bisu is a co-exec producer.
The last time someone tried to dust off The Munsters for the small screen was in 2017, when NBC opted to reboot the comedy with Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman and Seth Meyers. The half-hour single-camera version was going to follow members of an offbeat family who are determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn.

Being presumably the most recognized action star of the 21st century, Jason Statham made his name known around the world with such staples of the genre, as Crank (2006), The Mechanic (2011), Wrath of Man (2021) and, of course, the Fast & Furious franchise.
Disappointingly, his last movie rated 70% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes was the 2015 hit Spy. Since then, Statham starred only in critically panned or even commercially failed flicks, however, this year Amazon released a movie that changed that trend
The plot revolves around Statham’s Adam Clay, a former secret agent who is enraged by the suicide of his landlady, caused by the loss of her charity's funds to a phishing scam.
Urging for revenge, Adam sets out a campaign against those responsible for that scam, and this operation promises to take on national stakes, as the guilty ones acknowledge he was a member of a powerful clandestine organization.

Here We Go Again hit the theaters, the franchise gets an exciting update as Meryl Streep confirms that the third film is supposedly already in the works.
The actress also revealed that she’s expected to be back in the next installment, though, despite the raving reaction that the announcement will get soon, this news in particular can cause some sort of controversy that the creators have to deal with.
During her visit to the Cannes Film Festival where she received an Honorary Palme D’Or at the opening ceremony, Streep spilled the tea in one of her interviews saying that she has a conversation with Mamma Mia’s creators on her to-do list concerning the actress’ possible return to...

“Love is a gamble and I’m so glad that I’m winnin,” sings Luther Vandross in his 1981 classic “Never Too Much” song with a sentiment that has some extra significance today.
CNN Films and OWN have picked up Dawn Porter’s Sundance Film Festival-debuting Luther: Never Too Much documentary, it was announced today at the Warner Bros Discovery upfront in NYC. The 101-minute film, which counts Colin Firth among its EPs and had Sony Music Entertainment as its sales agent, is set to debut on CNN, OWN and streamer Max next year.
“I’m thrilled to partner again with CNN Films and OWN to bring this film to audiences,” said director Porter on Wednesday. “Luther’s music is timeless, his legacy is unsurpassed, and we can’t wait for all of his fans new and old to experience his brilliance.”

Dawn Porter’s documentary about R&b icon Luther Vandross, “Luther: Never Too Much,” has been acquired by CNN Films in partnership with the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), IndieWire can reveal exclusively.
The documentary film, which first premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will debut in 2025 first on television on CNN and OWN before it lands on Max.
The acquisition is encouraging news for CNN Films, which back in 2022 under former boss Chris Licht scaled back on its original documentary films. The brand moved away from acquisitions or commissioning projects and opted instead for newsy, quick turnaround docs produced in-house.
But CNN Films also partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios on this fall’s release of “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” so the two acquisitions, both from this year’s Sundance, is a positive step forward for the documentary brand.

One of the most popular medical television series, Grey's Anatomy, already has 20 seasons. In 2019, it broke the duration record previously set by ER – 427 episodes against 332. More than three thousand actors have already participated in the show, not many of them are remembered by the viewers, but there is one character who died back in season 11, but is still loved by fans – Dr. Derek Shepherd.
Why Did Patrick Dempsey Leave Grey's Anatomy?
Grey's Anatomy was left without everyone's favorite Dr. Shepherd after Patrick Dempsey had a falling out with showrunner Shonda Rhimes. As it turns out, Dempsey had been complaining about his character's storyline for a long time, implying that he didn't have enough screen time.
The situation was aggravated by the fact that the actor cheated on his wife with one of the assistant producers of Grey's Anatomy. Their affair added to the tension on the set, as many of Dempsey's co-stars knew his wife.

Celebration of cinema has always been extended by the Oscars honoring the prowess of cinematic excellence with one of the most recognized accolades. Throughout the rich history of cinema, there have been several movies based on true events, that left a mark among moviegoers or in the pages of history.
A still from Lawrence of Arabia
Also, movies that are based on true events are another way of documenting the particular incident, albeit a portion of fictionalization may alter the accuracy, but for cinema’s sake, filmmakers enjoy the basic freedom to have their own touch to the narrative. Throughout history, movies like The Great Ziegfeld by Robert Z. Leonard, or it would be criminal not to mention David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia, and several other movies have claimed the Best Picture Oscars. Here is a list of six movies that won an Oscar in the Best Picture category.

Poliakoff’s first film starring Charles Dance is reissued, and whil the story rambles and some of the acting isn’t great, it retains a confident power to intrigue
There is great archival and historical interest to the 1987 feature film debut of writer-director Stephen Poliakoff, which now on re-release. It is a peculiar, cerebral and often strangely toothless mystery drama with some pretty wooden acting, but also some fascinating, secret London locations, used with flair. These include the Kingsway tram tunnel – gateway to a veritable catacomb of secret spaces under the city – and the gigantic Edmonton incinerator (now the Edmonton EcoPark). Hidden City offers points of interest in its drama; chiefly, the assertive and characteristically haughty performance from Charles Dance as an educational psychologist who stumbles on an occult conspiracy. Dance incidentally has the most outrageously handbags-at-dawn fight with Bill Paterson (“Mind the suit!”) – an un-macho showdown to be compared...
