On Thursday, Netflix debuted the first trailer for one of its major 2024 awards contenders: Azazel Jacobs’s family drama “His Three Daughters” with Emmy nominees Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen starring in the title roles.
Says Netflix in its press release: “This tense, touching, and funny portrait of family dynamics follows three estranged sisters as they converge in a New York apartment to care for their ailing father and try to mend their own broken relationship with one another.”
“His Three Daughters” will debut in limited release starting on September 6 before hitting the streaming platform on September 20. Netflix acquired the film during last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where “His Three Daughters” received strong reviews for its story execution and revelatory performances – particularly from Lyonne, who plays against her usual type as the half-sister of the characters played by Coon and Olsen.

While the rumors surrounding Kevin Costner’s exit from Yellowstone have been a source of headache for Taylor Sheridan, both parties had relatively held their silence as a sign of respect toward the other. Paramount, on the other hand, had no problem dumping oil into the fire after twisting the subject of Costner’s exit to paint an unfavorable picture of the show’s lead star.

By the end of the business day, Kevin Costner had been branded a villain. Further speculation spread like wildfire after reports surfaced about the Yellowstone cast cutting off contact with the senior actor.
As such, when the clamoring had died down enough to make space for Costner’s voice, the actor made sure that fans knew the truth behind the controversy instead of the studio’s misinterpreted claims.

Just like the first film, he will reportedly be reprising his iconic role of the mild-mannered family man cum former secret government assassin — a role he pulled off most impeccably.

Bob Odenkirk, writer Derek Kolstad and director Timo Tjahjanto are on board for Nobody 2, Sharon Stone has joined the cast.
Nobody was one of the biggest action cinema treats of 2021. Boasting one of the best fight sequences of that year, a sequel has been in the works ever since.
The first film followed Bob Odenkirk as former assassin Hutch, who attracts the ire of a gang boss after he injures his son in the aforementioned beating.
Odenkirk suffered severe health problems in the years since, he had a heart attack and subsewuently had stents fitted. Thankfully, he came through it and is onboard for the sequel, along with returning writer Derek Kolstad. Odenkirk and Kolstad wrote the script with Aaron Rabin and Umair Aleem.

The sequel to the awesome movie “Nobody” just got even cooler. They just announced that Sharon Stone is joining the cast as the villain, which will be so wild to see!
In the first movie, Bob Odenkirk totally shocked people with how good he was at kicking butt. Usually he’s known for making us laugh in shows like “Breaking Bad.” But he proved he’s also a real action star.
Now he’s coming back for “Nobody 2” but this time his enemy is gonna be Sharon Stone! She’s legendary from movies like “Basic Instinct” and “Casino.” I bet the fights between her and Bob are gonna be super intense!
The director for the sequel is Timo Tjahjanto, who does great horror and action stuff. It’s being made by the same people too. Sharon will be returning to big movies after focusing on TV shows recently.

Last month, we brought you the news that Bob Odenkirk is set to reprise his role as government-assassin-turned-family-man-turned-assassin-again Hutch Mansell in Nobody 2, with Indonesian action-horror filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto aboard to direct. And now we know who our man Hutch will be putting his, er, Basic Instinct to the test against in the follow-up to Ilya Naishuller's 2021 geriaction romp. Per THR's reporting, Oscar-nominated Hollywood icon Sharon Stone is set to star opposite Odenkirk as the shadowy new big-bad in the sequel.

Nobody 2, the sequel to 2021’s fun and fierce action film, starring Bob Odenkirk as a mild-mannered retired assassin who returns to his former life after a botched home invasion, is getting a significant update with confirmation that Sharon Stone is joining the cast for a villainous role. For Hutch Mansell’s (Bob Odenkirk) sake, I hope Stone isn’t within arms reach of an ice pick.

Two decades later, Halle Berry is looking back at her DC solo outing and what went wrong.
The Academy Award winner reflected on 2004’s Catwoman for the movie’s 20th anniversary, explaining why she “went along with” the movie’s low-stakes plot without objections.
“I always thought the idea of Catwoman saving women from a face cream felt a bit soft,” Berry told Entertainment Weekly. “All the other superheroes save the world; they don’t just save women from cracked faces. I always knew that was a soft superhero plight, but at that time in my career, I didn’t have the agency I have today or belief that I could challenge that, so I went along with it.”
Directed by Pitof, Catwoman starred Berry as Patience Phillips, a graphic designer who discovers a conspiracy at the cosmetic company where she works to cover up widespread health problems caused by a new product.

Some people might argue that Sharon Stone’s infamous leg-crossing scene in Basic Instinct made her not only famous but also an instant symbol in cinema’s pop culture history. However, for the actress in question, the uncertainty of the scene combined with the humiliation of not knowing what she was getting into was not exactly a career highlight for her.

Despite Basic Instinct’s instant and ubiquitous success, the drama that unfolded behind and in front of the scenes was enough to compile into a whole other documentary. For Sharon Stone, however, the trauma from her career’s biggest and her personal breakout film left a lifelong impression on her mental health and emotional well-being.

Sharon Stone believes streaming has been good for Hollywood. The 66-year-old actress believes that streaming networks have been vital in keeping mid-range budge movies alive as studios focus on blockbusters.Speaking at the Taormina Film Festival, where she received the Golden Cariddi Lifetime Achievement Award, Sharon told Variety: "The world has changed dynamically since 1992. When I made ‘Basic Instinct,’ it seemed like a scandal. The studios have changed dramatically. They’ve changed from making a variety of movies to making really these gigantic $100 and $200 million films. When I was making these beautiful films 30 years ago, they would be $50-60 million tops. Now streamers are taking over our business. And I don’t think that that’s a terrible thing really. We’re coming back to making smaller and more relevant films."And, Sharon believes there is now more of an opportunity for women to write, direct and produce. She said:...

Armie Hammer recently spoke with Piers Morgan and said Hollywood producers would be “smart” to cast actors such as himself or Kevin Spacey as they would probably be able to snag them for a “pretty cheap” price. While Hollywood is certainly always eager to save a buck, I’m not sure I can see that happening anytime soon. Hammer was one of Hollywood’s biggest upcoming actors, but when several women came forward with sexual assault allegations against him in 2021 (not to mention those bizarre cannibalism claims), his career was over.
“If they were smart, they could get guys like two-time Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey for probably pretty cheap right now, for a good project,” Hammer said. As soon as the allegations surfaced, the actor was dropped from pretty much every project on his slate, which led to him seeking multiple jobs in the Cayman Islands. Veteran film festival chief Marco Müller took over the reins of Taormina in April, giving him a short window to pull together the ongoing 70th edition. After a week that has included the world premiere of Saint Clare starring Bella Thorne, the Italian premiere of Warner Bros/Universal’s Twisters and Baltasar Kormakur’s Touch from Focus, as well as a high-profile visit from Sharon Stone, he still appears to be on the fence about returning next year.
“The festival harvest is like the weather, so sometimes you just have to shake the tree and the beautiful fruits come into your hands,” Müller told Deadline. “This year, with the strike in Hollywood and the fact that I signed my contract around April 12, the fact that both Warner Bros and Universal went for Taormina for me is a good starting point for the future — if ever I would have a future here.

With films such as “Challengers” and “Love Lies Bleeding” is sex coming back to the movies? “It’s not something we’re coming back to in my mind.

Sharon Stone is crediting the rise in female filmmakers for undercutting perversely pervasive “male fantasy” characters.
The actress said during the 2024 Taormina Film Festival (via Deadline) that today’s films are “less about male-driven fantasies” as more women are writing and directing features.
“I think that now that women are writing, directing, producing, filming, and more and more a part of filmmaking, films are less about male-driven fantasies,” Stone said. “Actresses are less asked to portray the male fantasy and critics are less asked to tell us if we fulfilled the male fantasy or not. It’s more, ‘Are we fulfilling the human condition?'”
Stone also applauded how streamers have created a platform for diverse stories.
“Studio systems have changed dramatically, they’ve changed from making a variety of movies to making these gigantic $100 and $200 million films,” Stone said of the difference between 30 years ago and today. “Streamers are taking over our business,...

Sharon Stone appeared at the Taormina Film Festival on Friday during a press conference held at the luxe San Domenico Palace (where Season 2 of The White Lotus was partially filmed). Stone is in the hilltop Sicilian town to accept the Golden Cariddi for Lifetime Achievement later this evening.
In a wide-ranging discussion, the Oscar nominee addressed such topics as how the movie business has changed since her breakout performance in 1992’s Basic Instinct, and the difference between how sex was portrayed onscreen in those days versus today. She also commented that she’s considering a move to Europe.
Whether the latter is tied to her political views was not clear, but Stone did talk about the upcoming U.S. presidential election, saying, “Thank God I’m not a politician… I have always been a very proud American, and I love my country very much. Of course, I am deeply concerned...

“I hate that it got all put on me… that it’s my failure,” says Catwoman star Halle Berry, 20 years after the film’s calamitous release.
Readers with long memories may remember the derision that greeted the release of Catwoman in 2004. Directed by French filmmaker Pitof, it starred Halle Berry – then on a run of success, having won an Oscar for her work in Monster’s Ball – as new imagining of the titular superhero.
It was clear from the finished film that there were problems behind the scenes, and to mark its 20th anniversary, several of the main people involved in making it have spoken to Entertainment Weekly about its troubled production.
One obvious issue, going by producer Denise Di Novi and screenwriter John Brancato’s comments, is that the film went into production without a finished script. Di Novi and Brancato had initially thought of their Catwoman as a “lower-budget...

Action Jackson (1988), directed by Craig R. Baxley, stands as a remarkable fusion of the blaxploitation genre’s legacy and the dynamic, explosive nature of 1980s action cinema. While it may not reach the iconic status of blaxploitation classics like Shaft or Super Fly, Action Jackson offers a distinctive experience that both honours its roots and embraces contemporary action movie tropes.
The film centres on Jericho “Action” Jackson (Carl Weathers), a Detroit police sergeant demoted due to his overzealous tactics. Jackson finds himself embroiled in a plot masterminded by industrial magnate Peter Dellaplane (Craig T. Nelson), who aims to seize control of a powerful union. We all know that woman. We call her a man-eater for her ability to dominate any patriarchal exchange and command men to act on her every whim and desire. Weather weaponizing tears or sexuality, there’s something so admirable about a woman who gives no fucks. So confident that she will come out on top, she’s ascended beyond the fear of being disliked and uses her destabilizing confidence to play with men used to being in charge. Paul Verhoeven’s neo-noir outing with Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas headlining the film was perhaps one of the most polarizing pieces of cinema of its time (and perhaps even today) which sundered the audience into opposing factions.

Faye Dunaway is back in the spotlight and taking on another major Hollywood icon: herself. In frank candor, the singular Dunaway sits down for the first feature-length documentary about her life and career, speaking honestly about all the highs and lows, from Oscar wins to reputation blows and struggles with alcoholism, throughout her six-decade career. Along with insight from friends and colleagues, the three-time Oscar nominee “contextualizes her life and filmography, laying bare her struggles with mental health while confronting the double standards she was subjected to as a woman in Hollywood.”

Hollywood legend Sharon Stone just caused a stir on social media by recreating one of her most famous scenes ever. You probably remember that jaw-dropping moment from Basic Instinct over 30 years ago. Well, Sharon took to Instagram to pay tribute to it in her own bold way.
This time around though, Sharon isn’t showing quite as much skin. Instead of being Question on the interrogation chair in just her underwear, Sharon posed in some sexy pink lingerie. She’s seated in a fancy gold and white chair, looking as poised and gorgeous as ever at 66 years old.
Sharon captioned the shot “Basically….Yours” as a nod to the movie that made her a huge star. You can tell she’s proud of the risks she took early in her career, even if the original scene wasn’t what she expected. For a long time, Sharon was really upset about feeling tricked on set.

Thirty-two years later, Sharon Stone put her own spin on the infamous scene, which she felt she was tricked into filming and left her angry.
The moment in question is, of course, the interrogation scene in Basic Instinct in which Stone’s character uncrosses her legs and reveals that she is not wearing underwear. Stone has said, “I’d been told, ‘We can’t see anything—I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.’” But when she saw the film, that was not the case.
Basic Instinct director Paul Verhoeven, for his part, denied tricking the actress.
Stone has said the scene impacted her career negatively, and that she even lost custody of her child in 2004 because of assumptions created by her brief nudity in the film.
Stone’s thoughts about the scene seem to have mellowed over the years,...

Optimism in the face of uncertainty was the tune of the day at the inaugural Social Impact Summit, co-hosted by The Hollywood Reporter and the Social Impact Fund on Thursday.
The summit, focusing on “The Future of Hollywood Philanthropy” and presented by biopharmaceutical company Gilead, buzzed with hope and a sense of urgency as Hollywood leaders, philanthropic innovators and on-the-ground volunteers packed the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles. There was a defiant sense that the old ways were not working anymore — galas are out, giving circles are in.
“Our goal today is not only to inspire new ways of doing good but to also spark conversations around what works and what can be done better,” Craig Cichy, executive director of the Social Impact Fund (winners of the 2023 THR award for Philanthropic Organization of the Year), noted in his opening remarks.

In a tribute to Sin City, Orville Peck and Beck perform back-to-back on a roulette wheel and rope in Sharon Stone for a glitzy Casino callback in the music video for their duet “Death Valley High.”
The clip even opens with the words “Peck Beck” in lights, paying tribute to Elvis Presley’s ’68 comeback special. The song, which will appear on Peck’s upcoming Stampede album when it arrives next month, also bears a jaunty resemblance to Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas,” though the King could never rap like Beck.

Sharon Stone believes that Kevin Spacey is still “canceled” due to his sexual orientation and not the allegations against him of assault.
Stone told The Hollywood Reporter that while Spacey “grabbed people by their genitals,” so goes the standard in Hollywood. According to Stone, however, it is solely due to the fact that the allegations against Spacey are queer that Spacey’s career hasn’t recovered.
“He’s reached out to everybody he’s offended and said he’s sorry,” Stone said. “Kevin grabbed people by their genitals. Many people. But nobody [has publicly said] he’s raped them or forced them into a sexual encounter. But there’s so much hatred for him because in his case it was man-on-man. Elizabeth Taylor hurt her hip. And Sharon Stone’s life would never be the same.
It was May 1995, and the Basic Instinct star, then 37, was at the Cannes Film Festival plugging her new movie, The Quick and the Dead, when she was approached by Dr. Mathilde Krim, founder of the American Foundation for AIDS Research. Would Stone consider standing in for the ailing Taylor as host of the charity’s star-studded annual fundraiser on the Riviera?
She said yes, as she had for years for any ask amfAR had of her. But years earlier, it was not an easy decision. In the late ’80s, AIDS was a disease still shrouded in stigma and shame, even as it devastated much of the artistic community. Stone was warned that taking the gig might very well “ruin her career.”

Jeffrey Katzenberg hasn’t said anything yet, but more big Democratic donors are speaking out for Joe Biden to step aside after last week’s debate debacle.
