King’s marital life, however, was messy and he was married 8 times before he married Shawn Southwick in 1997. But their relationship also soured in 2019 and they filed for divorce that year. Considering the failed marriages he has had, King asserted in 2020 that he was not a ‘marrying guy’ and the big age gap between them led to the downfall of their marriage.

Rodney Dangerfield was the king of telling dumb jokes about his wife, a practice he got away with because his own ineptitude as a romantic partner usually made him the butt of the joke. But in the name of spreading the wealth, here are plenty of classic and contemporary comics joining Dangerfield in delivering spousal punchlines. Before you head to marriage counseling, take these dumb wife jokes — please…
1 Hasan Minhaj
“I recently got married. It was like a reverse Lord of the Rings situation where I got a ring and then I lost half of my power.”
2 Rodney Dangerfield
“My wife and I were happy for 20 years. Then we met.”
3 Nate Bargatze
“She put Life360 on my phone. That’s so they can track you even when they’re not near you. You might not even know you have it on your phone. It’s worse than what the government’s doing.

Bee Movie and Seinfeld actor Patrick Warburton firmly believes that both projects “succeeded” for the same reasons — and if you got a question, you ask the 8-ball.
Very soon after Jerry Seinfeld’s highly anticipated feature film screenwriting debut Bee Movie premiered on November 2, 2007, the buzz that surrounded the animated comedy thanks to its massive marketing campaign quickly died down, and the sting of its lukewarm reception began to set in for Universal Pictures. Critics and audiences alike expected a more clever and cohesive movie than what the tandem of the Seinfeld namesake and DreamWorks Animation created, and Bee Movie’s awkward, unfocused and unfunny plot failed to deliver a memorable experience beyond a couple of uncomfortable and unforgettable interspecies date scenes.
The box office return on Bee Movie landed just shy of doubling its budget, which is the generally accepted break-even point on such big studio films, and by...

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F unsurprisingly reunited Eddie Murphy’s Detective Axel Foley with several of his old buddies from the first three movies. But he also briefly bumped into… the villain from a completely unrelated Adam Sandler movie?
One of the oddest moments in Axel F (which was actually a lot of fun) comes when Foley and his daughter’s ex Bobby crash a helicopter onto a golf course. The conclusion of the movie’s biggest action sequence finds the two cops being confronted by an angry golfer played by none other than Christopher McDonald. While McDonald is credited simply as “Golfer,” some fans naturally assumed that he was supposed to be Happy Gilmore’s nemesis Shooter McGavin.
Sure, he could have just been playing a brand new character. Or, for that matter, Marty from Hacks, who has been known to play golf occasionally. But it seems pretty...

Comedy is bigger than ever, Impractical Jokers’ Sal Vulcano marveled as we spoke in June. When he wanted to be a stand-up comic as a kid, people looked at him as if he had three heads. Now, “there are more comedians than ever. There are more people trying to be comics, there are more theater comedians, there are more arena acts than ever, more specials than ever.”
What’s behind the boom? There are many factors, of course, but to sum up the current era in a single word?
Netflix.
With a crazy-huge library of stand-up specials and new ones dropping every month, Netflix has raised the visibility and viability of stand-up like no other. The streamer is also padding pocketbooks, paying big-name comics astronomical sums. In the past decade, Chris Rock reportedly landed $40 million for two specials, Dave Chappelle got $60 million for three and Jerry Seinfeld pocketed $100 million for...

Juliette Lewis and Peter Dinklage hope to continue their respective career highs with the upcoming Western novel adaptation “The Thicket.”
Lewis, who reigned over 2022 TV with “Yellowjackets,” “Queer as Folk,” and “Welcome to Chippendales,” plays an assassin who is tracked by a bounty hunter, portrayed by Dinklage. The actor is next set to star in the buzzy musical film “Wicked” after a slew of recent film roles including “She Came to Me,” “Cyrano,” “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” and Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut “Unfrosted.”
The official synopsis for “The Thicket” reads: When fierce bounty hunter Reginald Jones (Dinklage) is recruited by a desperate man to track down a ruthless killer known only as Cutthroat Bill (Lewis), he rallies a band of unlikely heroes including a grave-digging ex-slave and a street-smart woman-for-hire. Most of us tend to think of Seinfeld as the “show about nothing,” but it wasn’t really about “nothing.” Sure, some episodes were set entirely within the confines of everyday spaces like parking garages and Chinese restaurants, but others found the gang battling psychotic clowns and befriending Major League Baseball players.
As Seinfeld has previously stated, the actual pitch he and Larry David took to NBC wasn’t for a “show about nothing” but rather, for a show about “how a comedian gets his material.” The “nothing” idea was just something George came up with in the show’s fictional pitch session. He even suggested that some episodes would feature characters reading.
But even that initial pitch seems wildly off-base from where the show ended up. At first, Seinfeld episodes were always bookended by stand-up routines in which Jerry would muse about topics related to the show. This likely...

Hugh Jackman Revealed Jerry Seinfeld Convinced Him To End Wolverine ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
In 2017, Hugh Jackman gave his final performance as Wolverine in the critically acclaimed box office success Logan before venturing out of retirement for Deadpool and Wolverine. While devastated fans mourned his retirement, the R-rated X-Men film was a stunning conclusion to playing the clawed mutant Wolverine.
When probed about his decision to quit the successful franchise that catapulted him to worldwide stardom, Jackman explained his decision by simply saying it “just felt like it was the right time to do it.”
However, in a 2017 conversation with Willem Dafoe for Variety, Hugh Jackman revealed his pal Jerry Seinfeld was to blame for the Australian actor retiring his Wolverine.

Despite originating so many important artistic movements throughout history, the country of France has apparently found stand-up comedy to be too complex a medium to master on their own, so they’ve taken to stealing classic American comedy routines and passing them off as originals. I can’t wait to see their version of “The Bourgeoisie.”
In American comedy culture, joke theft is considered to be a mortal sin that will tank the career of the sinner no matter how popular their Comedy Central sketch show may be. However, over in France, the enforcement of the whole “no plagiarism” rule in comedy is much more relaxed, similarly to how the cultural differences between us lead to very different philosophies on the 40-hour work week, underaged drinking and marital fidelity.

Can we truly capture the enormity of the legacy left behind by the late, great Bob Newhart? The cherished star of screen gems like Elf and The Big Bang Theory recently took his final bow at the ripe age of 94. A torrent of tributes has surged from every corner of the globe, heartily toasting the actor who warmed the cockles of our hearts.

His remarkable odyssey rocketed to stellar heights in the 1970s, when he donned the hat of the beloved Chicago psychologist Robert Hartly on The Bob Newhart Show. It’s no tall tale that Newhart, with an air of selectivity as palpable as his humor, agreed to grace The Big Bang Theory with his presence on two non-negotiable terms.

Bob Newhart, the genteel but sharply satirical comic whose TV series “The Bob Newhart Show” and “Newhart” were huge hits throughout the 1970s and ’80s, died Thursday in Los Angeles. He was 94.
Newhart’s publicist Jerry Digney said he died after a series of short illnesses.
Newhart was also known to younger audiences as Papa Elf in the 2003 Christmas classic “Elf,” his guest spots on “The Big Bang Theory” and most recently appeared in three episodes of “Young Sheldon.”
“The Big Bang Theory” creator Chuck Lorre remembered Newhart, saying in a statement, “For years I begged Bob to appear on one of my shows. He always said no. But then he fell in love with ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and said yes – with two provisions. One: his character had to have an arc that spanned several episodes. And two: he wanted to win an Emmy. Jerry Seinfeld has been thinking about the Pop-Tart for a long time. As far back as a Late Show appearance in 2010, the comedian and actor has been stewing on the rectangular Kellogg’s snack. In 2018, he tweeted that he’d been thinking about “an invention of the [Pop-Tart] movie.” Soon, the idea spread into his work.
“[Co-writer] Spike Feresten and I, as a joke, would say to each other, ‘Let’s make a movie about Pop-Tarts,’ ” Seinfeld told Netflix. “And then when the pandemic happened and we had nothing to do, he said, ‘Let’s really write this as a movie.’ ” With Unfrosted, that long-joked-about movie is now a reality — and it just landed an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie.
Unfrosted is set in Michigan in 1963, the year before Pop-Tarts hit grocery store shelves and shocked young Jerry Seinfeld into a 60-year trajectory toward this very moment.

The scrapped episode of Seinfeld focused on a bet regarding Kramer’s claims about having had s*x with a flight attendant in an airplane lavatory during his return from Puerto Rico.

Between his stand-up comedy and acclaimed sitcom series, Seinfeld, it is an understatement to say that Jerry Seinfeld has become a hit both on stage and on the small screen. The star tried following up that success on the big screen with 2007’s Bee Movie, although that stopped when the film only gained popularity nearly a decade later as an internet meme. Seinfeld makes his second attempt with Unfrosted, which also serves as his feature directorial debut, although it would be surprising if this even became popular as an internet meme.

Hugh Grant recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to mourn the closing of his local U.K. movie theater. Cineworld announced earlier this month it was closing down Picturehouse, a boutique arm of movie theater chains that includes Grant’s beloved Fulham Road cinemas.
“Fulham Rd cinema closing after 94 years. Strangely unbearable,” Grant wrote to his followers. “Let’s all sit at home and watch ‘content’ on ‘streaming.’ While scrolling. Miserable face emoji.”
Several other members of the British film and television industry replied to Grant’s post with their own shock and owe over the movie theater’s closing. Broadcaster Terry Christian wrote: “Lived around the corner from a cinema as a kid – like something magic. We used to walk around and look at the stills of what was showing and imagine. Should protect them like the French do.”
Actor Michael Warburton wrote in a reply that the closing...

Exclusive: Earlier this year, Hulu revealed that it was making a big push into stand-up comedy, taking on the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
The Disney-backed streamer has now signed up another big name to its roster – Bill Burr.
Burr’s next comedy special, which was taped in June at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, will air on Hulu as part of the Hulu’s Laughing Now banner.
He joins Jim Gaffigan, whose special The Skinny, will kick off the push on November 22. The plan is to have 12 specials across the year with one launching each month.
Deadline understands that Hulu is also in talks with other big names and is close to other deals.

Legendary comedians — and even more legendary porn connoisseurs — Abbott and Costello accomplished a lot in their careers, starring in one of the most popular radio shows of all-time, their own TV series and numerous classic films, including the definitive horror-comedy Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein and the underrated murder mystery spoof Who Done It?
But the duo will always be best known for their classic “Who’s on First?” routine, in which Lou Costello becomes increasingly confused and annoyed over a conversation about improbably-named baseball players, including Who, What, Why and I Don’t Know.
The sketch was picked as the “greatest comedy routine of the 20th century” by Time Magazine, and in 1956, a solid gold record pressing of “Who’s on First?” was installed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Michael Richards’ portrayal of Kramer in Seinfeld created one of the most iconic characters in the American sitcom space, right up there with Chandler Bing, Marshall Eriksen, and Captain Raymond Holt. Jerry Seinfeld went on the record to say that no one could have played the character better, except maybe one other actor.
Michael Richards as Cosmos Kramer in Seinfeld || Columbia Pictures
Seinfeld, like old great American sitcoms, created a main cast of memorable characters, and among them, was the the charismatic and sometimes dimwitted Kramer, who benefitted from Michael Richards’ great performance, along with the wit and charm that the actor brought to the character. It is nigh impossible to imagine another actor playing Kramer, but Jerry Seinfeld revealed on The Howard Stern Show who could have done it if not Richards.

Ah, Seinfeld, the NBC show about nothing that became something! Well, there was one episode that nearly had co-creator Larry David biting his nails, worried that his comedic counterpart, Jerry Seinfeld, might not give it the thumbs up. We are talking about the legendary banter that became a cultural touchstone—the eleventh episode of the fourth season, The Contest.

Praised as a juggling act of wit & daring subject matter, this fan-favorite and critically acclaimed episode stood out and had viewers rolling with laughter. Surprisingly, the concept of this episode, which aired in 1992, was a hot potato, as David kept it under wraps for several seasons before daring to pitch Seinfeld.

Hugh Grant almost replaced Charlie Sheen in the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men after he was fired from the series. Sheen had firmly established himself with the audience, making his replacement a challenging task for the showrunners.

While Ashton Kutcher eventually landed the opportunity and joined the series as Walden Schmidt starting in Season 9, the offer was initially made to the Wonka actor. Grant, however, denied the offer, as the makers did not present him with a script or a clear plan for the show’s future, leading him to step back from taking such a lucrative offer.

In the world of Hollywood, actors and actresses place huge emphasis on how they look on screen as well as off-screen. From fad diets to even surgery, looking a certain way has always been on the radar of the A-listers. However, for the talented Melissa McCarthy, the story is quite different from the hustle and bustle of Tinsel Town.

An unseen interview that captures comedian Richard Lewis holding court at Greenblatt’s Delicatessen in Hollywood is set for release on Saturday, June 29.
Filmmaker/Documentarian Gregg Barson conducted the Lewis interview for his 2011 documentary, Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis.
Barson remembered it being one of the most hysterical interviews he ever conducted, and that’s saying plenty, because he was fortunate enough to sit down with such legendary comedians for his documentary — Richard Belzer, Chevy Chase, Billy Crystal, Eddie Murphy, Carl Reiner, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jerry Lewis himself.
“I didn’t want it to end because I was treated to a one-man, private sit-down comedy extravaganza,” Barson said, recalling the Lewis moment.
When Barson revisited the material in its entirety, he had over an hour of unseen interview footage that highlights Lewis’s frenetic improvisational style of stand-up.

Before there was Glee, before there was Talladega Nights, Jane Lynch got one of her first starring roles in Weirdo Couple Obsessed With Frosted Flakes.
“In 1999, I did a bunch of commercials,” Lynch told Martin Short on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “I don’t know if you remember, but it was the year of Jane Lynch. Maxium, Chevrolet, I did all sorts of stuff. A bug spray.”
Ooh, a bug spray! Those are lucrative gigs for a struggling comic, but Lynch’s big break was yet to come. “I went into a callback for a Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes commercial,” she remembered. At the audition, she found out who was set to direct the spot: Christopher Guest.
Lynch had seen Waiting for Guffman and knew Guest from his work with Short and Billy Crystal on Saturday Night Live. “You guys were just amazing, and so, I was very nervous,” she told Short.

Maybe Jerry Seinfeld’s right, maybe movies really are dead. Exhibit A: The trailer for the new Christmas flick Red One, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and J.K. Simmons as a distractingly shredded Santa Claus. Say what you will about Tim Allen, at least his Santa didn’t look like he was going to put creatine in your stocking and replace his toy workshop with a CrossFit gym.
Does anybody want to spend their holidays watching the Rock brawl with beefy CGI snowmen, and Captain America attempting to use a dash of Christmas magic to fuck a life-sized Wonder Woman action figure? Sure there have been a lot of bad Christmas films over the years, but at least that movie where Lindsay Lohan gets festive brain damage didn’t cost $250 million, which was reportedly the budget for Red One.

Could Sean Penn make “Milk” today?
It’s a question the actor answered himself, in a recent profile by Maureen Dowd in the New York Times. “It could not happen in a time like this,” he said, of his performance as the slain gay politician. “It’s a time of tremendous overreach. It’s a timid and artless policy toward the human imagination.”
Penn is clearly passionate about the Gus Van Sant-directed film, which won him his second Oscar and which, he says, was “the last time I had a good time” on sets more than 15 years after its 2008 release. He’s part of a class of A-listers from an age where the celebrity class was untouchable, and — like Jerry Seinfeld and Jennifer Aniston — he seems visibly irritated by the shifts in power toward the audience. It's no secret that TikTok is a social media giant, and there's at least one entire generation that has opted to watch short clips of video on their phone rather than spend time watching streaming shows or feature-length films, whether they're in theaters or even at home. Hell, some of the youths are probably watching TikTok videos while a forgettable streaming movie is playing in the background. Others are just watching them in small chunks, because they're being pirated on TikTok too.
Unfortunately, TikTok has become so pervasive in our entertainment culture that studios have been using popular influencers with millions of followers on the social media behemoth to help build publicity for upcoming movies and TV shows that TikTok users might not see in the trailers, commercials, and billboards that their screen-hungry eyes would otherwise never gaze upon. The fact that the 76th Emmy nominations voting round ended on Monday means that Gold Derby’s users have had over 10 days to make their picks in five categories that were previously not included in our predictions center. After taking very little time to form, these new consensus lineups have remained virtually unchanged for nearly two weeks, presumably because they generally consist of tried-and-true contenders and almost exclusively align with the prospect of repeat wins.
Based on the predictions of all 3,000 of our participating readers, the only major change that has occurred in the five new categories since voting opened is “Top Chef” presenter Kristen Kish’s displacement of Gordon Ramsay (“Next Level Chef”) in the Best Reality/Competition Host lineup. A closer examination of the opinions of our predictor subgroups reveals more discrepancies, including that our editors stand alone in still backing Ramsay and forecasting a second consecutive Best...

Elaine Benes had a number of truly odd boyfriends throughout the course of Seinfeld — I mean, one of them was literally a psychotic clown with a history of violence — but one of the most memorably eccentric of the bunch was Aaron, the “close talker” played by Judge Reinhold.
While the term “close talker” has subsequently become part of our cultural lexicon, filming this particular scene really weirded out one of the Seinfeld cast members.
During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Reinhold discussed his experience shooting the close-talker scenes. Apparently, during rehearsals, he would get incrementally closer to each person he talked to, before finally ending with Jerry Seinfeld. “The crew was laughing in a way that … it seemed like something was going on,” Reinhold explained.
When the lunch break came, he asked some of the crew members: “Why were you guys laughing so hard when I get to Jerry?...

Friends. South Park. Frasier. Family Guy. Some of TV’s longest-running sitcoms premiered in the 1990s, and remain relevant and beloved if not still producing new episodes today. But a decade is a long time, executives try a lot of ideas to fill their schedules, and since broadcast TV programming is kind of a zero-sum game, far more sitcoms premiered than ever found an audience. The question is: which ones deserved better?
A word on methodology here: I took the term “forgotten” very literally. That means I didn’t consider any ‘90s sitcom that’s streaming on a legitimate pay or subscription platform; any ‘90s sitcom that lasted more than one season; and any of which only the pilot is available to watch — illegitimately, since pilots have to jam in so much exposition that judging a show’s quality by that episode alone doesn’t offer an accurate picture of where it aspires to go.

Who wouldn’t want to hug Kesha? This acclaimed pop sensation has charmed the world not only with her catchy tunes but also with an enduring spirit that screams resilience & positivity. Yet, if you are her aficionado and have been near the pulse of pop culture, you’d know there was an odd mishap involving Kesha & comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld.
Indeed, it was a star-studded charity event, & amidst the allure, Kesha—a self-professed fan who might’ve found solace in the quirkiness of Seinfeld’s eponymous sitcom—reached out for a hug. Sadly, there stood the Seinfeld star, steadfast in his ‘no hugging’ policy, denying Kesha not once but three times.

But did you know how it all came full circle in a twist of fate involving none other than the flamboyant Cardi B, who actually took revenge for our TikTok hitmaker?

What better way to understand diversity in America than through comedy?
That’s the premise behind Roots of Comedy, a six-part docuseries that premiered on PBS last week. Veteran comedian Jesus Trejo travels the U.S. to hang with up-and-coming comics from every corner of the country, looking at our nation through the lens of stand-up. I recently caught up with Trejo to learn about his personal comedy journey and how it led to his new show. Here’s what he had to say…
“I remember being a kid and memorizing what you would call jokey jokes. My mom used to watch Sábado Gigante with Don Francisco, one of the longest-running shows in the world. Imagine a Tonight Show type of template, but it would run for three hours. One of the segments were these joke tellers, they were called monologues. They would tell jokey jokes, and I used to memorize them.

Jerry Seinfeld shut down another group of pro-Palestine hecklers at his stand-up show in Australia, which was only the most recent occurrence in his chain of disruptions during the comedian’s tour.
On Saturday night, Seinfeld was performing to thousands of fans at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena when a group of pro-Palestine protesters began shouting, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” toward the end of his set.
“Oh, you’re back. They’re back! The protesters are back! I missed you,” Seinfeld said on stage, before addressing them directly.
“Listen, you and I are in the same business. We’re in the same business,” the comedian said. “Our business is to get people to see things the way we see it. The problem is, you’re in the wrong place. Do you hear how well I’m doing? This is what you want.”

Unlike his character Trey on “Broad City,” the acting future of Paul W. Downs is looking bright. And though he may have earned more attention for his work on “Hacks” behind the scenes as co-creator, co-showrunner, and one of the directors on the TV series, it’s his supporting role as manager Jimmy LuSaque Jr. that Downs really covets.
“Acting is what I’ve always wanted to do,” Downs said in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. “I started writing because it’s easier to write for yourself and put yourself in something. I always did both hand in hand, but it certainly is a means to get to perform.”
And not just in comedies either. Downs hopes to work with the greats one day.
“I would love to be in a Todd Haynes movie…. That would be a dream,” he said.
Haynes’ next film, a gay romance/detective film...

Baffling allusions to the January 6th riots aside, Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy these days is about as edgy as a Nerf body pillow. But back in the ‘90s, Seinfeld wasn’t without its button-pushing moments. In addition to the masturbation contest and the abortion debate/couch-defiling episode, Seinfeld risked stirring controversy with “The Raincoats,” in which Jerry is caught making out with his girlfriend during a screening of Schindler’s List.
Even Jerry Stiller, who, of course, played Frank Costanza, was worried that this storyline went too far. “I almost wanted to say to everybody, ‘You can’t have them necking in the balcony while they’re watching Schindler’s List,’” Stiller once admitted. “I just felt they had gone over the line with that one.”
As you may recall, the same episode guest-starred Judge Reinhold as Elaine’s “close-talker” boyfriend Aaron, who becomes disconcertingly attached to Jerry’s parents Morty and Helen.

Jerry Seinfeld is working through his range of heckler put-downs after he was interrupted once more during his stand-up show in Australia on Saturday evening.
Last week, he was heckled by pro-Palestinian protestors at his gig in Sydney, where the comedian was called “a hack” and “a fraud” by people in the crowd.
This weekend, he moved to Melbourne, where news.com.au reports that hecklers interrupted the show 10 minutes from the end, chanting: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
The Australian news website quotes Seinfeld responding to the hecklers:
“Oh, you’re back. The protesters are back! I missed you,” before he addressed them directly:
“Listen, you and I are in the same business.
“Our business is to get people to see things the way we see it. The problem is, you’re in the wrong place. Do you hear how well I’m doing?...
