A case can be made that in the 21st century Bumblebee has become the most popular Transformer. He’s certainly the most loved Autobot after the big red fire truck we call Optimus Prime. This is in large part due to his starring role in the first live-action Transformers movie of 2007. Despite having almost no lines of dialogue—the poor robot lost his voice!—Bumblebee found novel ways of communicating with Shia Labeouf’s Sam Witwicky: he used music and created the sensation of your first car as a teenager being your best mate.
It’s a trick that was expanded on in the prequel spinoff Bumblebee (2018), and it might be getting a whole new dimensionality now thanks to the upcoming animated film, Transformers One. Due out in September, the movie takes place three billion years ago—so long that whichever Transformers canon it may be a part of is practically mooted.

When Chris Hemsworth was presented with the challenge of playing a younger version of Optimus Prime in the animated film Transformers One, he probably thought to himself, “Roll out!” But that famous catchphrase, delivered by Peter Cullen since the original 1984 cartoon show, actually presented a challenge for Hemsworth as well.
“I don’t want to follow or mimic what Peter Cullen’s done,” the Australian recalls telling producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura when he was first offered the part. If he was going to step into another iconic character’s, err, wheels, he would need to make it his own. Fortunately, Hemsworth learned, Di Bonaventura didn’t want that either.

Transformers, robots in disguise! Transformers, more than meets the eye! So the iconic theme tune goes, and so seems to be the case with Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley's upcoming Transformers One, an all-new animated origin story for everybody's favourite metamorphic hunks of metal. Set three billion years before Michael Bay's movies, Cooley's movie is taking us back to before the fall of Transformer homeworld Cybertron, where we'll get to see how Chris Hemsworth's Orion Pax and Brian Tyree Henry's D-16 — better known to us now as Optimus Prime and Megatron — went from firm friends to fierce foes. The latest trailer for the film, premiered last night at Sdcc, reveals more about how the Transformers got their power and the roots of the millennia spanning conflict between Autobots and Decepticons. Check it out below:

The star-studded voice cast for the upcoming animated 'Transformers One' movie assembled at San Diego Comic-Con today, providing an exciting casting update for a room full of enthusiastic fans. The all-star voice cast featuring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson has a new addition—Steve Buscemi will be voicing the iconic franchise villain, Starscream.
Director Josh Cooley and the cast appeared in the convention center’s legendary Hall H to share details, footage, and the latest trailer for the upcoming Paramount release. The animated prequel explores the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron and takes place a staggering three billion years before the other Transformers stories. Here’s a breakdown of who’s who in the highly anticipated expansion of the franchise.
Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax
Chris Hemsworth will lend his vocal talents to the role of Orion Pax, who later becomes the fan-favorite Autobot leader, Optimus Prime. Those are huge shoes to fill, as voice actor Peter Cullen has been the voice of Optimus Prime since the 1980s, in both television and film. But Hemsworth said that because this is the brash, young version of Optimus Prime, the goal was never to sound like Cullen.
Brian Tyree Henry as D-16
Playing opposite Hemsworth is Brian Tyree Henry, who has been tapped to voice D-16, Orion Pax's close friend who eventually becomes his archenemy, Megatron. For Henry, the casting was a dream come true, recalling during the panel that for some reason, his parents only bought him the villain toys. He had the Megatron toy and would make him the hero, because even as a kid he knew that villains don’t start out that way.
Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1
Scarlett Johansson, no stranger to voicing animated characters (‘Sing,’ ‘Her,’ ‘Isle of Dogs’), will bring her star power to the role of Elita-1, a powerful female Autobot warrior and Optimus Prime's love interest.
Keegan-Michael Key as B-127
Comedy star Keegan-Michael Key will provide the voice of B-127, another of Orion Pax's allies. Key shared with the crowd at Hall H that he was a fan from the beginning, rushing home after school and begging his mother to let him watch the cartoon before doing his homework.
Steve Buscemi as Starscream
During the SDCC panel, it was revealed that Steve Buscemi will voice the villainous Decepticon, Starscream. Buscemi's talent for playing weaselly, untrustworthy characters should make him the perfect fit for this treacherous role.
Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion
The inimitable Laurence Fishburne will lend his iconic vocals to the wise mentor figure Alpha Trion. In a fun bit of Hollywood connections, ‘Transformers One’ producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who appeared onstage at the Comic-Con presentation, helped shepherd another Fishburne film into production 25 years ago—‘The Matrix.’
Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime
Jon Hamm continues his foray into voice acting—after roles in “Invincible,” “M.O.D.O.K.,” and “Grimsburg”— by taking on the role of Sentinel Prime, one of the original leaders of the Autobots, turned villain.

Paramount Pictures held a panel for Transformers One at the San Diego Comic-Con earlier today and we can now share the epic new trailer and poster for the movie.
Perhaps the biggest news to come out of Hall H is the fact Steve Buscemi will voice Starscream. Jon Hamm, meanwhile, is Sentinel Prime and Laurence Fishburne will play Alpha Trion.
The crowd also cheered when it was confirmed that Transformers One will feature no human characters. Finally!
"If we did this as a live-action movie, it would probably cost $500 million," Transformers One producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told fans. "What has been tricky in live-action is that every time a robot talks, it costs a lot of money. In animation, you can have them build out their character."

“If we did this as a live-action movie, it would probably cost $500M,” said Transformers One producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about the Paramount Animation and Hasbro title that kicked off Comic-Con 2024 today.
Talking about why the origin story of Megatron and Optimus Prime went animated instead of live-action, di Bonaventura added: “What has been tricky in live-action is that every time a robot talks, it costs a lot of money. In animation, you can have them build out their character.”

Form up and roll out! Paramount Animation is turning the ignition key of San Diego Comic-Con 2024 for a Transformers One panel to start this year’s celebration of superheroes, comic books, film, television, and more! The annual event returns to form after years of Covid-19 cancelations, Hollywood strikes, and major studios bowing out of the show in the final hours. I would say fans are in for a breath of fresh air, but if you’ve ever been to San Diego Comic-Con, you know that’s a false promise. Remember to wear your deodorant, friends. It will be a packed show, and the gradual heat death of California won’t do anyone any favors.
As a part of the panel, Paramount Animation debuted a new Transformers One trailer, which you can see in the player above. Meanwhile, a new poster for the film is at the bottom of this article.

The first Transformers One reactions rolled out yesterday evening and, as we first reported on Toonado.com, they're overwhelmingly positive. In fact, we haven't been able to find a single negative comment and all signs point to this exceeding the expectations of Transformers fans.
Lots of comparisons are made to the 1980s adventures we know led to many of you falling in love with these characters as children and, despite replacing the legendary Peter Cullen, Chris Hemsworth receives the lion's share of praise for his take on Optimus Prime.
The story, animation, and general look and feel all appear to be a win as well and this might just be a sleeper hit when it opens in September.
Here are just a handful of the most noteworthy Transformers One reactions...

Transformers One sheds light on the earliest era of Cybertronian history fans have seen yet. Set billions of years prior to the films, on Cybertron before it was ravaged by the Autobot/Decepticon Civil War, the story follows young miners Orion Pax and D-16, two best friends who are destined to become the bitter rivals we now know as Optimus Prime and Megatron.
Adopting an American accent that renders him virtually unrecognizable on first listen, Chris Hemsworth lends his voice to the movie as Orion Pax/Optimus Prime opposite Bryan Tyree Henry as D-16/Megatron. Stepping into the iconic role and effectively sharing the reins with the great Peter Cullen is a tall task, but there are few actors better equipped to handle this kind of pressure than the MCU Og.

There's a lot of very positive buzz surrounding Transformers One among those lucky enough to have watched it. For some, that came as a surprise after a trailer which split opinions thanks to its retro animation style.
Another divisive element of the upcoming movie is its voice cast. While Paramount Pictures has enlisted an epic roster of A-List stars, ditching longtime Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen - Thor and Avengers: Endgame star Chris Hemsworth takes over the role - has upset many fans.
Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura spoke with Variety (via Toonado.com) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and he acknowledged the backlash while explaining the change.
"That was really important because, from a fan point of view, the original voice of Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, is revered," he said of recasting the role. "To have somebody else voice Optimus Prime was like, 'Whoa, we better get this right.

When the first trailer for Transformers One rolled out (from outer space), the response from fans was mixed. The animation style wasn't what most expected, while Thor star Chris Hemsworth replacing iconic Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen was always going to divide opinions.
Well, a "work-in-progress" cut of the movie was shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival yesterday evening and early word isn't just good, it's overwhelmingly positive.
"It is exactly what it has been described as - an origin story for how two young robots went from being besties to mortal enemies, ultimately known as Optimus Prime and Megatron," The Wrap explains. "The animation style previewed in the early trailer; a kind of painterly, 1980s lunchbox aesthetic, is very much present in the final film — all vibrant colors and shiny surfaces."

Chris Hemsworth is having a resurgence after his days as Thor in the MCU. The actor was recently seen in George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga as the antagonist Dementus. Hemsworth’s performance as the unhinged warlord in a post-apocalyptic wasteland was universally acclaimed, and many considered it to be the best part of the film.
Hemsworth’s next release of the year will be his animation debut, Transformers: One. The animated film will feature the actor as a younger Optimus Prime, i.e., Orion Pax, along with actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Steve Buscemi, and Keegan Michael-Key. The film’s premiere at the Annecy Animation International Film Festival was reportedly received with fanfare.

2007 saw Michael Bay helming the first of many Transformers features for the big screen, which led to Hasbro prioritizing their big-screen releases over animations. However, Bay’s big-budget blockbuster wasn’t the lone Transformers release of the year, as it also saw the debut of one of the most beloved Transformers animated shows, Transformers: Animated.
But despite its critical success, Cartoon Network eventually pulled off the plugs from the show after three seasons, and it had to do with the success of shows like The Clone Wars and Alien Force.

Despite becoming a box-office flop upon its release, Brad Pitt’s Fight Club has stood the test of time, becoming one of the most influential releases from David Fincher. However, its impact isn’t just limited to the viewers, as director Steven Caple Jr. too took inspiration from the action thriller for the 2023 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
For his reimagination of the popular IP, the director filmmaker incorporated Pete Davidson into the feature, whose character took major inspiration from Pitt’s Tyler Durden.

After his star-studded roles in other superhero and action franchises, including his long-term work as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the latest addition as Dr. Dementus in the Mad Max lore, Chris Hemsworth, seems to be all set to jump into his next big project. What’s more, his next role may reportedly be in a collision movie of two of the biggest action franchises of all time.

According to exclusive reports, Hemsworth is being eyed to star in a crossover movie of multi-billionaire G.I. Joe and Transformers franchises. But as much as this is a piece of fantastic news for all of his fans out there, Peter Cullen fans don’t seem to be all too happy about it. And, if anything, their anger just may be over nothing if these reports turn out to be true.

But as much as this is a piece of fantastic news for all of his fans out there, Peter Cullen fans don’t seem to be all too happy about it. And, if anything, their anger just may be over nothing if these reports turn out to be true.

This summer, Marvel Cinematic Universe regular Chris Hemsworth, best known as the Asgardian demigod Thor, will be heard lending his voice to the animated "Transformers One," the origin story of the friendship turned rivalry between heroic Autobots leader Optimus Prime and the villainous Decepticons leader Megatron. Hemsworth is bringing some star power to the voice of Optimus Prime, who has typically been voiced by Peter Cullen in the classic "Transformers" cartoons and the modern live-action film franchise. But soon, he'll be bringing more than his voice to the toy-based media giant.
Deadline reports that Chris Hemsworth has been cast in the upcoming Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie that has yet to be given an official title. The project was officially announced at CinemaCon earlier this year, confirming what was teased at the end of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" in 2023. However, beyond seeing characters from G.I. With Transformers: Rise of the Beasts failing to hit big last year, the upcoming entry, starring Chris Hemsworth, is taking the franchise back to its roots. Considering the IP initially gained traction following the release of the 1986 animated flick, The Transformers: The Movie, Transformers One is taking a similar approach to its predecessor.
But while excitement regarding the upcoming animated release was high, it’s even higher now, thanks to Paramount launching the first trailer 125000 feet above the Earth.

Can robots have a coming of age story? Well, Optimus Prime, Megatron and their assembled mechanical factions are alien robots known as Transformers, so, you know, anything is possible. And indeed, Transformers One takes us back to a time before sides had been taken in the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, when Optimus was known as Orion Pax, and Megatron went by the slightly less imposing moniker of D-16.
The animated adventure, directed by Toy Story 4's Josh Cooley, harkens back to the 1986 Transformers: The Movie, but is set even further back in time, when Cybertron holds secrets and threats – compelling Orion, D-16, B-127 (Aka Bumblebee) and their friend Elita-1 to become what they're supposed to be. They're about to go through a – pun entirely intended – transformational experience.

After years of the Michael Bay Transformers movies (plus Bumblebee and last year's Rise Of The Beasts), it's time to turn back the clock to the earlier days of the heroes — and villains — of Cybertron. The Robots before they were In Disguise. Make way for Transformers One, a new animated entry in the canon, directed by Toy Story 4's Josh Cooley.
Transformers One centres on Orion Pax, the future Optimus Prime (here voiced by Chris Hemsworth) and Brian Tyree Henry's D-16, the 'bot who will one day be known as Megatron. As even the most entry-level Transformers fan will know, the pair become sworn enemies – but here they, along with B-127 and Elita (Scarlett Johansson), are friends who will have to embrace their destiny to save their home planet, all the while unaware that one of them will one day strive to dominate it.

"Transformers One" has released its first trailer, finally giving the public the peek that CinemaCon attendees got last week. Directed by Josh Cooley, the film looks to offer a breezy and colorful animated adventure akin to the "Spider-Verse" films.
Does the title "Transformers One" sound like a misnomer to you? Audiences have already been subjected to eight of these movies and they're infamously not good ("Bumblebee" is innocent and 1986's "The Transformers: The Movie" barely skirts by on nostalgia despite how cynical it was). Well, you see, the ninth "Transformers" movie will be going back to the beginning. Set on Cybertron, the home planet of the Robots in Disguise, the film is set before the Transformers got to Earth, before the Autobots and Decepticons went to war, and before Optimus Prime and Megatron had those names.

Chris Hemsworth has a busy slate this year. The Australian actor has been working nonstop since the MCU’s Infinity Stone saga ended. He has been a part of several exciting franchises already, and his upcoming projects promise a lot more.
Hemsworth is currently at CinemaCon, promoting two of his films. One of them happened to be Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which was met with thunderous applause. His other film, and one that has received an even bigger welcome, is Transformers One.

Chris Hemsworth, the voice of a young Optimus Prime, and Brian Tyree Henry, the voice of a young Megatron, got an enthusiastic welcome at CinemaCon as they introduced a first look and 3D scene from “Transformers One,” Paramount’s animated origin story based on the Hasbro toys. “This origin story is how they transformed from brothers in arms to sworn enemies,” said Henry from Las Vegas on Thursday.
In the clip, Optimus Prime, Megatron and their friends “proven worthy” are given their powers to transform — and awkwardly get accustomed to using those powers. They then enter a cargo train and for the first time see the surface of their home planet Cybertron, where the movie is set. The stylized look of the surface is a vast environment of rock-like structures that, like the bots, grow and transform.

There’s more than meets the eye at CinemaCon this year, with Paramount rolling out new footage for Transformers One, the animated film starring Chris Hemsworth as the voice of Optimus Prime. The movie opens nationwide on September 12, 2024, with Josh Cooley directing from a script by Andrew Barrer, Steve Desmond, and Gabriel Ferrari. Focusing on an origin story set on Cybertron, Transformers One revolves around the relationship and rivalry of Autobot Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and the Decepticon Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry). Other stars joining the cast include Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
During today’s Paramount panel at CinemaCon, Scarlett Johansson (in a video from New York) introduced Chris Hemsworth. After paying tribute to Peter Cullen, Hemsworth said he was honored to share the part of Optimus Prime with Cullen and become a part of the character’s legacy.

One year after Paramount Pictures broke news at CinemaCon that Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Brian Tyree Henry had signed on for the animated Transformers One — the first animated film in the franchise in nearly four decades — the studio welcomed that trio back to introduce their work.
Hemsworth, Johansson and Henry had official duties during Paramount’s studio presentation by pumping a new extended trailer that played for the gathering of theater owners (ahead of a wide launch April 18) as well as pulling back the curtain on the first scene from Transformers One in 3D. Johansson appeared on the big screen in a recorded message from New York, where she’s at work on her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great.
“I’m so incredibly proud of the the work that we’ve all done,” the actress said, teasing that the film is “unlike anything you’ve ever seen onscreen.”

There have been a lot of "Transformers" cartoons since 1984. Most of them (and I say this as a fan) are pretty unimpressive. One of the best ones is "Transformers: Animated," which aired from 2007 to 2009 on Cartoon Network. Network executive Sam Register created the series like it was "Teen Titans" with robots. Register even recruited one of that show's character designers, the late Derrick J. Wyatt, resulting in a similar art style.
"Animated" broke away from past series' tenets, transforming them you might say — the show's team even cast Megatron voice actor extraordinaire David Kaye as Optimus Prime instead. The series was explicitly pitched as "more like a superhero show than a 'Transformers' show" (read the original production bible here for many tantalizing insights and scrapped ideas). The Autobots each had unique powers and faced off against human villains; against the Decepticons, they were definite underdogs.

Invincible Season 2 had a bunch of guest cameos from acclaimed voice actors, such as Peter Cullen, known for his work with Optimus Prime, being the voice of the coalition’s leader Thaddeus. There were also cameos from Shantel VanSanten (Becca from The Boys) as Anissa and Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant from CW’s Supergirl) as April Howsam. The show has another super-hero television alum in its ranks who is yet to make an appearance: Chloe Bennet (Quake from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D).

Invincible Season 2 Episode 6 decided to emulate some of Season 1 Episode 1, reminding the audience that this is not their grandfather’s superhero animated series. Out of all the shocking moments that came out of the season’s return was the brutal way in which the Guardians of the Globe were murdered, again, by the Lizard League of all people.

The Invincible series has managed to gain a devoted fandom thanks to its original concept and mature themes, which makes it quite unique. Revolving around the superhero Mark Grayson, who struggles to balance his personal life with his superhero duties, the show has so much to offer. It is back with a second part to continue the events of Invincible Season 2 Part 1, bringing new twists to the animated series.

The first trailer for Amazon’s animated series Invincible Season 2 certainly came with a banger as it introduced many new actors as voice cast. But what stood out for longtime animation fans was Peter Cullen’s appearance in the show, who is best known as the voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise going back to 1984.

The second part of Invincible Season 2 was released on March 14 after a hiatus of four months. The second season introduces the multiverse and the villain Angstrom Levy. The show also introduces many other prominent characters from the original comics by Robert Kirkman, such as the Coalition of Planets.
One of the most important characters from the comics that the second season of Invincible introduces is Thaedus, the mastermind behind the Coalition of Planets. Voiced by the legendary Peter Cullen, the character made his debut in the third episode of the second season and has already changed the course of the show with one key element. Spoilers ahead.

Voiced by the legendary Peter Cullen, the character made his debut in the third episode of the second season and has already changed the course of the show with one key element. Spoilers ahead.

Paramount Pictures didn’t have a bad 2023 but had put a lot of hopes on the latest in the Mission: Impossible franchise to push them towards a great year. After Tom Cruise soared with Top Gun: Maverick, they had hoped fans would flock to theaters once again to see him in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One. Off that’s a long title. It underperformed, so the next film will get a new name. What can fans look forward to on Paramount’s 2024 release schedule?

Let’s get this out of the way right away. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is not on this list. Despite what was initially planned, the sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be coming to theaters in March, or any time in the upcoming year.

Some names are instantly recognizable to fans outside of the realm of comic books. Stan Lee, Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, and Jack Kirby are just a few. Another to include on that roster is Robert Kirkman. Best known for creating The Walking Dead, Kirkman co-founded Skybound Entertainment and has been involved with hit comics, including Outcast and Invincible. The latter was turned into a series in 2021 featuring the voices of Steven Yeun, Gillian Jacobs, Sandra Oh, and J.K. Simmons, amongst dozens of other recognizable Hollywood actors. Now, after a long wait, the second season of Invincible is debuting on Prime Video (read our review).

Debbie Grayson (Sandra Oh) is tormented by a cabinet door that won’t shut. It suffered a shoddy repair job following the calamity that upended Debbie’s life one month ago, when her husband, Nolan (J.K. Simmons), the extraterrestrial superhero known as Omni-Man, revealed his mission to colonize Earth for his homeland of Viltrum. Nolan leveled the city of Chicago, killing thousands of people and nearly murdering their son, Mark (Steven Yeun), before flying off into the atmosphere. Debbie’s frequent trips to the kitchen for glasses of wine culminate in clashes with the door, which remains slightly ajar—a stubborn symbol of the anger and grief that she hasn’t figured out how to compartmentalize.

Over two years since the first season aired, Amazon Prime Video’s “Invincible” is back for Season 2. The animated superhero series will pick up right where the last season ended, introducing new characters and stories from the comic it is based on. The first four episodes of Season 2 will debut on Prime Video on Nov. 3, and the remaining four episodes will be released in early 2024.
The Season 2 trailer was unveiled at Prime Video’s New York Comic Con panel on Saturday, along with an exclusive episode clip and a series conversation with co-showrunners Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa.

Steven Caple, Jr.'s 2023 movie, "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," took place partly in Peru and was filmed in notable locations around the country. According to Andina, the Peruvian news agency, "Rise of the Beasts" was filmed partly in the lush jungles of San Martin where Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and Optimus Primal (Ron Perlman) met to discuss tactics in taking down the wicked robot Scourge (Peter Dinklage). Other parts of "Beasts" were shot in Saqsayhuaman on the outskirts of the ancient city of Cusco, which is an enormous stone network of structures in the shape of a puma. It is one of Peru's most-visited locations. The filmmakers also filmed near the thousands of salt ponds of Maras, as well as near Macchu Picchu, the 15th-century Incan citadel you read all about in your fifth-grade geography class.
Naturally, the Peruvian tourism boards have begun offering "Transformers"-themed tours of Machu Picchu.

Across the "Transformers" franchise, from the 1980s animated series to its seven live-action films, the most recognizable and steady presence is Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime. For the younger generation, however, the voice of Pete Davidson in "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is probably even more noticeable. The comedian, best known for his stint on "Saturday Night Live" and his raucous dating life, plays the Autobot spy Mirage in the latest robot-smashing epic, adding to the enduring legacy of bad jokes and cheesy dialogue the series has become known for over the years.
Returning to the franchise for the first time since the third film, 2011's "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," Mirage has the ability to project holograms and transform into a Porsche 964 Carrera. The "Transformers" movies took a pretty healthy break after the release of 2018's "Bumblebee," even if that wasn't originally the plan that Paramount Pictures had in mind. Regardless, thanks to the pandemic, that's exactly what happened. But with the release of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" in 2023, the franchise is back with much more to come. Not only are we poised for more live-action movies but we're also getting a feature-length, theatrically-released animated film in the form of "Transformers One."
While the robots in disguise started out as toys, it was in no small part thanks to the '80s animated series, as well as 1986's "Transformers: The Movie" that helped make the Autobots and Decepticons staples of pop culture. So bringing it back around to animation feels like a full-circle moment, and one that may well excite fans who checked out during Michael Bay's later live-action entries. So...

If there's one voice that means "heroism" to me, it's Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime in the "Transformers" franchise. Cullen's performance has been compared to John Wayne; especially in his early days voicing the character, there's a no-nonsense drawl to Optimus' voice. However, Cullen told MTV News in 2007 that he wasn't deliberately drawing on Wayne; it just came out that way:
"John Wayne has a deep-end voice and for a truck to have a high voice would be ridiculous. So I had to give him that basic imprint of the low-end voice. John Wayne was never intended to be the sound."
Cullen's real influence was something more personal; his older brother, H.L. "Larry" Cullen. The older Cullen brother was a decorated Marine Corps captain and veteran of the Vietnam War (with a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts to his name).

To talk about Peter Cullen's voice acting career is to take a trip through the last five decades of mainstream U.S. animation. The man has lent his voice to so many noteworthy cartoon series that it boggles the mind, including "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo," "The Smurfs," "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends," "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Muppet Babies," "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers," and "Invincible." But one cannot even begin to do justice to his body of work without touching on the iconic character that he's voiced across multiple animated shows and feature films for nearly 40 years now. Truly, at this point, Cullen is all but synonymous with his onscreen counterpart: Eeyore.
