Two days before Season 4 of “The Boys” premiered on June 13, showrunner Eric Kripke announced on social media that the upcoming fifth season of the Prime Video series for Amazon will be its last. Kripke hedged on the question when asked about it for this interview, which took place a few weeks before his announcement; but he did state clearly that he doesn’t want “The Boys” ever to be “turning into the thing that we’re parodying” — that is, an endless stream of superhero content that has flooded pop culture for years.
“It’d be a huge bummer if of all shows, this is the show that sells out,” Kripke said, “so I’m going to try.”
Of course, the end of “The Boys” next season won’t mean the end of the whole universe around the show, which is based on the comics series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

“The Boys” media franchise expanded in 2023 with an Amazon Prime Video spin-off titled “Gen V,” which tells the story of young superpowered individuals (aka “supes”) attending Godolkin University. Composer Matt Bowen, who works on both shows with Christopher Lennertz, tells us that the “one million dollar question” was how to differentiate the music between “Gen V” and “The Boys.” “It was a new corner of the world and needed a new identity, but at the same time, we couldn’t depart too far from the sound of the world,” he explains. Watch the exclusive video interview above.

In 2019, Lizze Broadway was at San Diego Comic-Con when the whispers began. “The Boys are coming. The Boys are coming.” A few minutes later, castmembers including Karl Urban and Jack Quaid walked by, seemingly in slow motion. “For a show I knew nothing about, this moment stuck with me big time,” says Broadway, who plays size-changing student Emma. Four years later, Broadway and her fellow cast were preparing to show off Amazon’s college-set The Boys spinoff, Gen V, at their own Comic-Con panel — a chance to assure the 4,800 or so fans of The Boys who were packed into the convention center that the new series would be just as raunchy and violent as the mother ship. The strike derailed that. But, months later, the Gen V team tells THR how it would have gone down.

There is no task too tough for “Gen V’s” makeup department head Colin Penman.
Across three seasons of Prime Video’s and Sony Pictures Television’s “The Boys,” and now its spinoff, “Gen V,” Penman has been assigned to creating an exploding penis, a five-foot-tall penis and, most recently, puppets who get into a bloody massacre.
The show’s executive producers Eric Kripke and Michele Fazekas wanted to take a fight sequence idea to the next level for “Gen V.” Penman happened to have puppet-making skills on his resume.
Fazekas explained the genesis behind the idea, “We had talked about real Sam [Asa Germann], and his arc is sort of struggling with mental illness. We said, ‘If he’s under stress and hallucinating, what is “The Boys” world’s version of a hallucination?'”

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of “Gen V, titled “Guardians of Godolkin,” now streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
You’ve had a week since the “Gen V” Season 1 finale to theorize about where Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Andre (Chance Perdomo), Jordan (Derek Luh/London Thor) and Emma (Lizze Broadway) are at the end of “The Boys” spinoff’s cliffhanger episode. So, do you have a plausible explanation for the medical facility with no doors that the four supes are stuck in?
It’s Ok, we don’t either, and just like “Gen V” showrunner Michele Fazekas, star Luh is no help to us by keeping his lips sealed — even though he’s finally allowed to talk about the Amazon series after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended — and refusing to be the spoiler-ific Tom Holland of the Vought Cinematic Universe.

The folks behind "The Boys" and its college-set spinoff, "Gen V," really love to explore the possibilities of superhuman sex. Sure, it's something comic book nerds have been doing since the genre began, but they really get into it. In "The Boys," there's an entire supe orgy that is about as wild as you would expect, some oral sex that ends in a crushed skull, and a graphic sex scene that involves a shrinking supe going into another supe's penis, so the team behind "Gen V" really had their work cut out for them. The college-age supes are having just as much sex as their older counterparts, and it's just as bizarre, as the show has demonstrated. Poor Emma (Lizze Broadway) gave the world's weirdest "hand-job" while shrunk down to the size of an action figure, for starters, and things only get pervier when the show's main supes wake up...

Spoiler alert: This post contains plot details from the Season 1 finale of “Gen V.”
Antony Starr and Karl Urban — who star on Amazon’s Prime Video drama “The Boys” as Homelander and Billy Butcher, respectively — reprised their roles in the Season 1 finale of “Gen V.” And it turns out they were gracious enough to do it on their “day off” from filming as Homelander assists some fledgling supervillains and Billy ties the Supe virus storyline to “The Boys” Season 4.
“Of course with Homelander, we were always kicking around, ‘When do you want to see him?’ And, ‘When do you want to pull that card?’ Because it’s a rare thing, and we didn’t want to squander it,” “Gen V” showrunner Michele Fazekas told TheWrap of Starr’s cameo. “It had come up throughout the season, and then it just made sense as the sort of thing to happen in the finale.

Spinoffs are a tough feat to pull off, and they're even harder when the main show is still going on. For the first five episodes or so, "Gen V" took the smart approach of basing its main storyline around a fairly low-level, self-contained conspiracy. The characters weren't interacting with anyone like Butcher or Homelander; they were simply trying to figure out what sort of crazy stuff was going on at their school, located in their own little corner of this crazy world.
But the latest episode, "Jumanji," flips that around a bit. It reveals that Dean Indira Shetty (Shelley Conn) is working on a contagious virus that can de-power any Supe, and also maybe kill them in the process. Although her methods to achieve this goal haven't affected anyone on "The Boys" just yet, it's easy to see how the results from Shetty's virus can bleed into the flagship show.

9 Questions With ‘Gen V’ Makeup Head: A Puppet Massacre and 1,000 Gallons of Blood (Exclusive Video)
Colin Penman, head of makeup for Prime Video’s hit “The Boys” spinoff “Gen V,” broke down the how the show pulled off its violent puppet massacre with a crew that had no puppet-building experience, and the most challenging prop that required 1,000 gallons of fake blood.
From action-packed fighting scenes, bloody explosions to human-sized fake penises, working on a show like “Gen V” isn’t for the faint of heart. And it calls for creatives like Penman, who have a unique set of skills that can help bring the ideas that come from the writers room to life, even if it’s building puppets.
“When we pitched [puppets] initially, we were like ‘This is going to sound crazy.’ And [Penman’s] like, ‘Oh, I’ve done that before.’ We may have started [making the puppets] a little into the previous episodes, but he had done this before. I couldn’t believe it,” showrunner Michele Fazekas told TheWrap in a previous interview.

Actor Jensen Ackles switched up his schedule so he could reprise his role as Soldier Boy in the “The Boys” spinoff, “Gen V,” at the request of the series’ showrunner Michele Fazekas, and its executive producer, Eric Kripke, the two told TheWrap in an interview.
“We needed a marquee character to come in to be like our heroes’ guide within [Cate’s, played by Maddie Phillips] dream,” Kripke explained.
Spoiler alert: This post contains plot details from Episode 6 of “Gen V”
In Episode 6 — titled “Jumanji” — viewers see Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Jordan (London Thor and Derek Luh) and Andre (Chance Perdomo) travel through Cate’s mind in hopes of discovering more about Godolkin University’s secret lab the Woods, as well her involvement with it. Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for Episode 6 of “Gen V,” titled “Jumanji” now streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
This week’s “Gen V” came with a pleasant surprise for fans — and we’re not even talking about Thursday’s Season 2 renewal news that hit just before the episode arrived.
The installment featured the much-teased cameo of Jensen Ackles’ “The Boys” supe Soldier Boy, who appears to Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Andre (Chance Perdomo) and Jordan (Derek Luh/London Thor) as they travel through Cate’s (Maddie Phillips) fractured mind while she’s breaking down from doing too much brain-wiping/un-wiping of her friends on behalf of Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn).
Soldier Boy, who in “The Boys” universe is currently under lock and key in a government facility following the events of Season 3, says he’s there because he was Cate’s first crush and the object of her first masturbation session.

The renewal arrives ahead of the Season 1 finale, scheduled to air on November 3 on Prime Video. “Gen V” showrunner Michele Fazekas told TheWrap that the show’s team of writers lucked out when they learned their head of makeup, Colin Penman, knew how to build puppets. Penman’s talent helped them pull off their pitch for Sam Riordan’s (Asa Germann) violent puppet-fied fight scene in the Prime Video show’s fifth episode.
“We really got into the idea of shooting an action sequence exactly how you would shoot any action sequence. Nothing is different about it except for the fact that it’s puppets, and the sort of juxtaposing,” Fazekas told TheWrap.

“Look, just to pull back the curtain, it’s just good pilot s–t. Your job in a pilot is to blow people’s minds so they want to keep watching,” Kripke told TheWrap on Thursday in a paired interview with the series’ showrunner Michele Fazekas.
“And it’s like undeniable proof that something is really wrong here,” Fazekas added.
As Fazekas put it, there is something very wrong at Godolkin University, which viewers learn in the first episode of the series “God U.” Hidden beneath the campus and past the corridors where invisible, nude Supes walk the halls, is a dark laboratory called “The Woods.

The creators of Prime Video’s Gen V are explaining that “c-cksplosion” and how they approached constructing a giant penis for the superhero sex scene.

There’s also a sex scene in the first episode where Emma (Lizzie Broadway) shrinks and climbs on the comparatively enormous penis of Liam (Robert Bazzocchi).

Spoiler Alert: This article contains minor spoilers for Episode 4 of “Gen V,” now streaming on Prime Video.
It wouldn’t be “The Boys” universe without an exploding penis, right?
In its first four episodes, Prime Video’s spinoff “Gen V” managed to outdo “The Boys” in the sheer number of on-screen penises shown — and also ushered in the first-ever “cocksplosion” seen on TV. Naturally, we had to speak with executive producers Eric Kripke and Michele Fazekas about it.
In Episode 4, Marie (Jaz Sinclair) is looking for Emma (Lizze Broadway), her missing roommate who shrank down super small to investigate the mysterious Woods supe program. To get answers on her whereabouts, Marie turns to a classmate named Rufus (Alexander Calvert), a creepy psychic who offers to find Emma — but suggests Marie pays for his services sexually. Marie considers ditching Rufus, but he relents and gives her some info on Emma.
Suddenly,...

Gen V definitely has one of the best origin stories for a leading character in any movie or TV series. Spin-off to the hit anti-superhero series The Boys, Gen V is set in Vought’s Godolkin University aka “God U” and it follows the story of a group of young supes trying to learn how to be real heroes. But it is set in The Boys universe, so it couldn’t just be that as we see our heroes getting tangled in a conspiracy that might be too big for them to handle on their own.
Created by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Craig Rosenberg and show run by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, Gen V has all the qualities The Boys fans were hoping for and a bit more. The spin-off series comfortably builds on The Boy’s themes with its own weird and fresh spin. The...

Ultra-violent superhero series “The Boys” centers around insidious corporation Vought, the corrupt superheroes it fosters and controls, and the vigilantes determined to dismantle it all, one supe at a time. The new spinoff series “Gen V” showcases a different, though no less evil side of Vought by examining a different age group’s dealings with their evil machinations.
In this case, a handful of super-powered college students find themselves in the thick of a vicious conspiracy lurking beneath the hallowed halls of Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. It makes for a completely different type of series than the parent show, though no less engaging or bloody.
Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) overcame a tragic past, where she discovered her powerful ability to manipulate her blood through a shocking, violent act and found her way to Godolkin through scholarships. It makes her stand out among the affluent, privileged student body. When Marie gets expelled,...

This Gen V review contains spoilers for episodes 1-3.
As a wise man in a superhero movie once said “you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Despite being only a youthful three seasons old, Prime Video’s The Boys currently finds itself in danger of violating Harvey Dent’s rule.
Based on a (mostly awful) comic of the same name, The Boys is about as cynical a superhero satire as you’re ever likely to find. The “supes” in Boys-world are rapists, murderers, fascists, and freaks. And what’s worse, the Vought Corporation propaganda apparatus built around them exists to make them as popular and inoffensive as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The Boys is absolutely scathing in its depiction of a late stage capitalistic system built upon nationalism, hero worship, and misplaced nostalgia.
And now, in a meta twist, The Boys has...
