When Kamala Harris was running for California attorney general in 2010, a young professionals group threw a campaign fundraiser at a now-defunct nightclub in Los Angeles called h.wood. Hundreds attended for a door fee of $45. “The nightclub was so packed out, she had to stand on top of a table in order to be heard,” says then event co-chair Todd Hawkins of Hawkins Mikita, a social impact group that connects Hollywood with political and philanthropic causes.
Hawkins has been active in leading various incarnations of young political organizations since 2006 when Gen44, a fundraising group that charged a $44 entry fee for such casual outings as nightclub events and basketball games was founded to support Barack Obama as the 44th president. Taking a page from bigwig Hollywood bundlers like Jeffrey Katzenberg and Haim Saban, Hawkins adopted the model of must-attend events with stars who connect with the younger demographic of Gen44. While San Diego Comic-Con continues to bring one surprise after another, a bear hopes to steal some of the spotlight with news about sticking its snoot into more nose candy for Cocaine Bear 2. According to industry scooper Daniel Rpk, a sequel to last year’s dark comedy thriller Cocaine Bear is in the works, with Elizabeth Banks producing and possibly getting back behind the camera as the project’s director.
Speaking with Rolling Stone last year about a possible sequel, Banks told the outlet, “I had an absolutely great time working on the (first movie). I loved how subversive, crazy, silly, and funny it was. I loved surprising people with the cast. I don’t think anybody was expecting Margo Martindale, who’s 70 years old, to shoot that kid. We had a lot fun, and if I got the opportunity to surprise the audience and delight myself again, I would take it.

The show will mark the return of the Public Theater’s summertime mainstay after an overhaul of its Central Park home, the Decacorte Theater. For decades, the Public has offered productions of Shakespeare and sometimes other classics at no charge to audience members willing to start lining up many hours before curtain time.
Saheem Ali, The Public’s Associate Artistic Director and Resident Director and a Tony Award nominee, is directing the production. Dinklage is playing Malvolio; Ferguson will be Andrew Aguecheeck; Nyong’o is playing Viola; and Oh is Olivia. Additional casting and details of the creative team will be announced this fall, the Public said.
The Delacorte is being significantly upgraded in the renovation, its first since it opened in 1962, at a projected cost of $78 million.

Joe Manganiello is responding to Sofía Vergara’s claim that they divorced because wanting more kids was a dealbreaker for her.
Vergara had previously revealed in Spanish newspaper El País that her ex-husband’s desire for more children was a big part of their split.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” she said. “I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.”
In an interview with Menschen, Vergara expanded on her reasoning adding, “I totally respect where anyone wants to be a mom after 50. I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world,...

Former Disney star Keri Russell recently got real about her time on The Mickey Mouse Club when she was a teen. Speaking on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast, Russell revealed there was a double standard – girls seen as “sexually active” often got cut from the show.
She explained they’d say “she’s out” if a girl looked like she was doing stuff. Meanwhile, Russell noticed the boys stayed til they were almost 20! Can you say unfair?
The actress, who’s now 47, was only 15 when she joined the show. She pointed out how weird it was that the female cast members faced stricter rules. Russell even hinted she knew firsthand about castmates having relationships. #Awkward
With 19 kids on set, Russell said the adults running things were invisible. Maybe that separation helped guard them from the pressures child stars can face. These days, she looks back feeling the least talented compared...

Keri Russell claims there was a double standard between male and female child actors during her time on The All New Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990s.
The Diplomat star recently stopped by the Dinner’s on Me podcast, where host Jesse Tyler Ferguson asked her if there was a cutoff age for young performers to be dropped from the Mmc reboot, which ran from 1989 to 1996.
“It’s usually like girls who look like they were sexually active,” she alleged. “Which, probably, I was one of the first. They’re like, ‘She’s out! She is out! That one is gone.'”
Russell also revealed that she was, in fact, sexually active with one of her male Mmc co-stars, who ultimately stayed on the program for several years after she was let go. She didn’t name the person, but she was previously romantically linked to fellow Mouseketeer Tony Lucca in the ’90s,...

Modern Family blessed us with perhaps one of the most beloved characters in sitcom history in the form of the perpetually awkward but ridiculously optimistic father of the Dunphy family. Portrayed by Ty Burrell throughout the uproariously comical eleven seasons of the show, Phil Dunphy – a devoted family man by day and the genius inventor of Real Head Scratcher™ by night – has always been the life of the party.
Modern Family | ABC
After Burrell’s brilliantly indelible impact as the iconic character, it’s simply impossible to envisage the show without his corny jokes or his innocent gaffes as Phil. Surprisingly enough, however, there was a time when that almost didn’t happen.
Ty Burrell Nearly Severed His Career Before Modern Family
Before his remarkable breakthrough thanks to the ABC sitcom, Ty Burrell – like most of the industry thespians – was trying to climb his way up the grueling ladder of Hollywood.

When Dancing With The Stars Season 32 began, many viewers believed Jason Mraz and his partner Daniella Karagach would be frontrunners. As a musician, Jason has a natural rhythm. And on top of that, Daniella won the Mirrorball Trophy during her second season as a pro.
They ultimately finished in second place behind Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy. Making it to the finale is an incredible honor, but Jason Mraz recently revealed he wanted to leave much sooner.

Rawson Marshall Thurber's "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" lived up to its title when it hit theaters on June 18, 2004. It had been a fairly meh summer up to this point. "Shrek 2" was a smash, and the Alfonso Cuaron-directed "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was the first truly good and aesthetically distinctive film in that series, but most of the heavy hitters were, at best, interesting misfires. When word got out from critics that Steven Spielberg would be adding to the disappointment parade with "The Terminal," it looked like a full-on bummer summer was in the offing.
No one was expecting much from a comedy built around a popular playground pastime, but "Dodgeball" was an uproarious slapdash lark that opened to an unexpected $30 million at the domestic box office. Ben Stiller had been a proven commercial commodity since the Farrelly Brothers' surprise 1998 smash "There's Something About Mary,...

"Elsbeth” brought back Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni after she originated the character in both “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight.” The CBS spin-off show follows the titular Elsbeth, an unconventional attorney who works with the NYPD to catch criminals.
But “Elsbeth” doesn’t just return Preston to one of her most treasured roles, it could also return Jesse Tyler Ferguson to the Emmys. Ferguson has a healthy Emmys history behind him (more on that later) but he has been absent at the TV awards for some time now. His guest role in “Elsbeth” could change that, however. The news does not come as a surprise, as the 69-year-old was in contact with Prince Diana in the 1990s, planning to cast her in the sequel to his 1992 film, The Bodyguard. The film, however, never got made.

In the moment, it all seemed like a big joke. Just a few months ago, all the senior members of the Modern Family cast — Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet — reunited at the SAG Awards to joke about post-sitcom life.
“I just sometimes get a little nostalgic for the golden days,” lamented Ferguson before offering the rationalization that life after a hit show can be pretty sweet as well.
O’Neill dumped a bucket of ice water on Ferguson’s wishful thinking. “Who are we kidding?” he asked. “I didn’t want to get emotional up here, but you know what I miss about it most of all? The money.”
Turns out, the bit wasn’t such a joke. Based on a pair of dumb new commercials, those Modern Family stars do miss each other. And by each other, I mean “the money.

Modern Family alums Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson reunited in character in the Dunphy family’s living room for a new commercial for WhatsApp.
The 30-second spot opens with Phil, Claire and Cam gushing about a “precious” photo of Haley and Dylan’s twins. Enter Mitchell who is quite unhappy he did not receive the photo because he had been left off the family group chat. “Shame, shame,” scolds Mitchell, to which Cam responds, “It’s not you. It’s your new phone.”
“Blurred photos, weird likes” notes Claire, so they started a family chat without him. The Dunphys’ housepainter who just happens to overhear the conversation comes to the rescue with a solution: “If your group has different phones, just use WhatsApp. It’s seamless and private.”
We later see Cam and Mitchell enjoying family photos on WhatsApp.

In a way, I’m relieved.
Reboots of all-time classics, of which “Modern Family” in the sitcom genre absolutely qualifies, are terrifying. The only thing they can really do is taint the reputation of the original.
On the other hand: what a disappointment.
"Modern Family” stars Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have indeed reunited as their characters Phil and Claire Dunphy, Mitchell Pritchett, and Cameron Tucker on their ABC set — for a WhatsApp commercial. Because of course it was.
To be fair, the concept of the ad makes good sense in the “Modern Family” universe: Phil, Claire, and Cam are sharing photos of Haley’s twins in the family group chat. Phil blows the secret that it’s a different family group chat, drawing looks from Claire and Cam.
Mitchell is not in that one, and it is no oversight. The problem is his new...

Modern Family cast members reunited as their characters onscreen for the first time since the comedy series ended in 2020 in a commercial for the messaging app WhatsApp. The ad – featuring Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Eric Stonestreet – aired Monday, June 17 during the NBA Finals Championship game. The commercials opens with Phil (Burrell), Claire (Bowen), and Cam (Stonestreet) sitting on the Dunphys’ living room couch, looking at Cam’s phone to see a photo of Haley’s (played by Sarah Hyland on the show) twins. As the three gush, Mitchell (Ferguson) walks in and naturally wants to see. In classic Phil fashion, the clueless dad immediately answers, “It’s in the group chat.” It’s quickly revealed that the three on the couch started a family group chat without Mitchell, to which he replies with his famous quote, “Shame!” – finger point and all. Stereophonic is now slated to perform at the Tony Awards.
The decision comes amid outcry from fans and the playwright, David Adjmi, himself, after the initial performance lineup was announced and did not include the show. While Stereophonic is a play, it features a score by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, and has been nominated for best score, as well as 12 other Tonys.
Tony producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner had hinted Tuesday that the show may be performing. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the producers were asked if there had been further discussions about them performing.
“There are always discussions that start here and here,” Weiss replied, putting his hands out the length of about a ruler. “There’s a lot of speculation and people forming their own judgments and opinions, and we are trying on our show to represent the season as well as we possibly...

As Emma (Margaret Cho) grieves her recently deceased dog, her erstwhile coworker Kayla (Missi Pyle) tries to extend a bit of comfort. “My grandma used to say that, once they know they’re yours, they’ll always be with you,” she says. “Even when they’re gone, they’ll find a way to let you know they’re still there.”
It’s the sort of well-meaning, well-worn sentiment that anyone who’s suffered such a tragedy has certainly heard before, and that, depending on the context, might read as trite bullshit or a profound insight. All That We Love takes it as its north star, and turns it into the latter. What could sound on paper like a saccharine sobfest becomes a gentle meditation on love in all its forms, and the grooves it leaves behind even after the objects of our affection have gone.
Fair warning, though: You will cry during this one,...

All That We Love doesn’t make an impression as a lovable film at first glance. Margaret Cho stars as Emma, an empty nester dealing with the aftermath of her family dog Tanner’s death. Emma’s life seems to spiral: she faces job frustration, confronts the return of her ex-husband Andy (Kenneth Choi), and must accept her daughter Maggie (Alice Lee) moving to Australia with her boyfriend. Examining the Chaos in Emma’s Life The one bright spot seems to be Emma’s friendship with Stan (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), who is also dealing with a personal loss and chooses to cope by purchasing a...

"All That We Love” is not, at first brush, a lovable film. Or perhaps the midlife crisis meets coming-of-age drama led by Margaret Cho is too lovable and therefore falls flat for its earnestness?
Cho stars as Emma, an empty nester who realizes just how alone she truly is after the death of her family dog Tanner. Emma is frustrated at work, faced with the return of her ex-husband Andy (Kenneth Choi), and forced to confront the fact that her daughter Maggie (Alice Lee) is relocating to Australia with her boyfriend (Devon Bostick). Basically, Emma is having a bad time. The only bright spot in Emma’s social circle, it seems, is her friendship with Stan (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), who is also dealing with a loss of his own…and a crisis reaction that includes purchasing a motorcycle.
As Stan comforts Emma, she begins to reevaluate the (non-canine) relationships in her life.
