Patrick Stewart is busy sharpening his axe while Sam Claflin practices his war cries for an adaptation of the Vault comic series Barbaric. The series adaptation is preparing to engage in battle on Netflix with Michael Bay as the project’s director. In addition to his starring role, Claflin is an executive producer of the bloodthirsty series from A+E Studios and Sheldon Turner & Jennifer Klein’s studio-based 100% Productions.
Sheldon Turner is writing Barbaric, which Deadline says is a mashup of Deadpool meets Game of Thrones with over-the-top violence, limb-chopping action, and biting humor. Michael Moreci writes Barbaric with art by Nathan Gooden.
Here’s the official synopsis for Barbaric Vol. 1 from Vault:
Owen the Barbarian has been cursed to do good with what remains of his life. His bloodthirsty weapon, Axe, has become his moral compass with a drinking problem. Together, they wander the realm, foredoomed to help any who seek assistance.

Netflix is developing Barbaric, a TV series adaptation of the best-selling Vault comic, sources tell Deadline. Sam Claflin is set to star and executive produce and Patrick Stewart is attached to star in the project, from A+E Studios and Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein’s studio-based 100% Productions.
Written by Turner, with Michael Bay in talks to direct, Barbaric is described as Deadpool meets Game of Thrones for the way it mashes gonzo violence and humor, sources said. Exclusive: Things are coming back around again for Selling Time, the supernatural thriller at 20th Century Fox. D.J. Caruso is signing on to direct, and he will oversee a new draft by Dan McDermott that is being written in hopes that Will Smith will star in the film. John Davis and Jennifer Klein will produce with McDermott. Though he still has not committed to starring, Smith has long been interested in playing the lead role in the thriller about a man who sells chunks of his life in an attempt to relive the worst day of his life so that he can change a tragedy. I feel like I have relived this project several times; I first wrote about it when McDermott sold it as a spec to Fox 2000 while he was president of DreamWorks Television in 2001. Smith has been intrigued for almost that long. There have been numerous incarnations...

Exclusive: Doug Liman has signed with CAA. Liman had followed his longtime agent Adam Kanter to Resolution, but has returned to the CAA fold. Liman, who left his TV business at CAA, will be repped in all areas. The helmer, whose big credits include Mr. And Mrs. Smith, most recently completed Edge Of Tomorrow, the science fiction film for Warner Bros that stars Tom Cruise. He’s next committed to direct the recently retitled Sony Pictures historical film The Summit, which is slated to begin production in mid-March. That is the Sheldon Turner-scripted story of George Mallory, the famous British mountaineer who rallied a nation with his attempts to conquer Everest before his Australian rival George Finch. This has gone a couple different ways in casting, but now it looks like Tom Hardy might well play Mallory (he was first choice but temporarily dropped due to scheduling) and that Luke Evans might play Finch.

Jon Hamm ("Mad Men," "30 Rock") is considering starring in the comedy Epic Fail, about a high school teacher who hires two of his students to pretend to kidnap his wife so that he can swoop in and "save her," therefore looking like a hero and reigniting their marriage. Espn director Marc Tietelman (he makes the network's funny short segments) will direct from a script by up and coming writer Kevin Costello.
Costello has a pretty cool story - the way most people get going in Hollywood is to first intern, then be someone's assistant for a couple of years, then hopefully move up the chain. Costello interned and then was the assistant to writer-producer Sheldon Turner (who wrote X-Men: First Class) and producer Jennifer Klein (Pearl Harbor) - they are now producing Epic Fail. The system works!
Costello is also in rewrites on Six Month Curse, a romantic comedy for Universal.

Tom Hardy
Sony Pictures is moving forward with its big screen adaptation of Jeffrey Archer’s nonfiction book “Paths of Glory”, the story of George Mallory’s three attempts to climb Mount Everest, the last of which led to his disappearance on the mountain in 1924 at the age of 37.
According to Deadline, actor Tom Hardy has signed aboard to play the lead role in the Doug Liman-directed film.
Working from a script by Sheldon Turner, the story will follow the book’s basic storyline, which is officially described as follows:
This is the story of a man who loved two women, and one of them killed him.
Some people have dreams that are so outrageous that if they were to achieve them, their place in history would be guaranteed. Francis Drake, Robert Scott, Percy Fawcett, Charles Lindbergh, Amy Johnson, Sir Edmund Hillary and Neil Armstrong are among such individuals.

"The Bourne Identity" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" director Doug Liman has joined "Everest", an adaptation of Jeffrey Archer's historical novel "Paths of Glory", at Sony Pictures says Deadline.
Archer's book deals with the mystery of George Mallory's 1924 ascent of Mount Everest. The mountain climber made several attempts to reach the peak, but he and partner Andrew Irvine never returned from their June 1924 climb.
In 1999, Mallory's frozen body was found near the summit on the North Face, and debate has raged ever since about whether he was actually on his way down or up. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to make a successful ascent of the peak in 1953.
Sheldon Turner came onboard to pen the script back in 2009 while Jennifer Klein is producing. Liman will supervise the next draft by Turner with the intention to direct the film which is said to be a priority at the studio.

We may be entering a Golden Age of TV Horror. We’ve already told you about the development of Frankenstein and The Munsters for NBC and of course we will soon be freaking out to American Horror Story on FX. Now comes news that ABC is joining the potential creepfest by picking up a new drama based on the Jekyll and Hyde story.
The original novella, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was written by Robert Louis Stevenson and published in 1886 and has since been adapted in countless ways (personal favorites are the Spencer Tracy and the Bugs Bunny treatments).
THR has now reported that the new version will be called simply Hyde and will be written by Up in the Air co-writer Sheldon Turner:
Hyde will revolve around Grant Hyde, a doctor with an eye condition who experiences bizarre side effects after attempting an experimental treatment...

The revolving door that is the cast of Sheldon Turner’s directorial debut seems to be finally slowing down. Beginning last year, both Colin Farrel and Eric Bana were in talks for By Virtue Fall with Hurt Locker’s Nicolas Chartier producing. Then it was speculated that Farrel was off the project with Jeremy Renner in to take his place. Just after The Tracking Board mentioned some new developments on the thriller, now 24 Frames is confirming and reporting both those actors and Chartier are out, but Bana remains and will be joined by James Spader, Ryan Phillippe and Carla Gugino. The independent film has now been set up with Bill Block’s international sales company and financier Qed, though no specific person behind the project, including producer Jennifer Klein, will publicly confirm any of the above details. Gist: Few details surrounding By Virtue Fall’s screenplay, also penned by Turner,...

Yesterday we reported that Eric Bana was very much on board for Sheldon Turner's By Virtue Fall. Today THR reports that James Spader, Carla Gugino, Ryan Phillippe, Treat Williams and Kim Coates have joined the cast. Bana is already attached to play one of the two leads.
As of last year, both Bana and Colin Farrell were interested in starring and producer Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker) was set to produce. Since then, Farrell has dropped out and Chartier says he's no longer involved with the project. The good news is that Bana is still involved and said, "he hopes to make it his next movie after he finishes shooting "Blackbird," the thriller he's currently making with Olivia Wilde."
Qed International (District 9, W.) looks to be handling foreign sales and putting up at least part of the money for production. The film tells the story of a pair...
