Tall, dark-haired, moustachioed light comedy actor, with a penchant for womanizing or slightly caddish roles. He was noted more for his screenplays than for his performances, involved as writer or co-writer in many romantic scripts involving Anna Neagle and Michael Wilding, as well as several of the 'Doctor' films based on the novels of Richard Gordon. From the late 1930's, he also wrote plays and lyrics for musical revues.
