When Game of Thrones was released in 2011, the world was hooked to George R.R. Martin’s amazing imagination. Although the finale may have been a bit of a letdown to some fans, the rest of the 8 seasons kept everyone at the edge of their seats. The series ended up being a full-blown hit globally. But that may have never happened if the author had decided to take the same route that J. K. Rowling did with the Harry Potter franchise.

The second season of House of the Dragon, though successful, was pretty lackluster when compared to its debut season. Season 2 peaked in the middle, then fell off at the end, something we have seen before in the case of Game of Thrones. And there’s good reason for that.

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin, whose creations have been the basis for the two shows, has been pretty unhappy with the route showrunners have taken. Even his chosen one, Ryan Condal, seems to have strayed from the path.

House of the Dragon recently concluded its second season, with the fantasy drama series receiving mostly positive reviews. However, it was also criticized for making unnecessary changes to the source material. Author George R.R. Martin himself recently criticized showrunner Ryan Condal for changing the infamous Blood & Cheese incident from book to screen.

During a recent interview, Condal defended his decision to change the incident while adapting it for television. Condal also explained why such changes were necessary and what drove him to make them. However, fans did not react kindly to Condal’s comments, making him one of the most hated creators in Westeros.

Were you a smidge disappointed by House of the Dragon Season 2?
Well, you’re certainly not flying those skies alone.
In fact, the hirsute, chronically suspendered genius/procrastinator who created the world of Westeros is calling the show out for making “misguided” changes to storylines originally found in his 2018 book Fire & Blood.

In a new blog post, author and House of the Dragon executive producer George R.R. Martin revealed that he was not pleased with some of the changes in the show’s second season.
Specifically, like many other viewers, he took issue with the execution (no pun intended) of the infamous “Blood and Cheese” sequence.
Martin says he discussed the changes with co-ep Ryan Condal and now wishes that he’d insisted on sticking with his original vision.

If there’s one thing that drives every TV show fan crazy, it’s waiting for the next thing to drop. But the worst part? Waiting for the book that inspired a favorite show. How can the episodes keep coming if the story hasn’t even been finished in the books yet? Game of Thrones fans have been dealing with this for years, and most of them seem to have finally had enough.

George R. R. Martin has been asked about this countless times, but there’s never been a clear answer as to why it’s taking him so long to finish just one book. This has dragged on for so long that people still joke about it and criticize him to this day.

Game of Thrones was known for its utter disregard for fan-favorite characters and brutal on-screen deaths. The show’s first season finale proved to fans that the series was not messing around and would not hesitate to kill even its biggest stars. While the later seasons may have become fan-pleasing, the deaths in the initial seasons set it apart.
Actress Sibel Kekilli, who played Shae in the show, reportedly begged the creators to not kill her off in the show. The character who becomes close to Tyrion Lannister and eventually betrays him, is strangled to death by the Imp after he escapes from prison, which is one of the most harrowing moments of the show.

Game of Thrones was the crown jewel of HBO with its interesting storylines and stunning visuals. Further, it brought George R. R. Martin’s fantasy novels to life, filled with political intrigue and epic battles. While the initial seasons truly captivated the viewers, the final season was an utter disappointment, not just for the audience but for the Got actors as well.

Game of Thrones broke all records with its intricate storytelling when it premiered in 2011. Further, it also presented a star-studded ensemble, including Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. His character Jamie Lannister had a morally complex role on the hit show. Based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels, Game of Thrones was a breakthrough for HBO. Debuting in 2011, It straddled multiple eras of its network’s ownership and technology.
The series showed that massive audiences would respond to fantasy series with dense mythologies. It also included a massive number of characters and place names.
And even though the series eventually got beyond Martin’s published books, many fans were dissatisfied with how the series ended. But Game of Thrones remains mostly well-remembered.
(Ollie Upton/HBO)
As with most popular franchises in the present day, the overseers of what is now Warner Bros. Discovery have sought to extend the franchise in additional directions and indefinitely into the future.

You’d think after eight seasons of being under the gun during production of “Game of Thrones” that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would have found luxurious the extended pandemic writing process for Netflix series “3 Body Problem.” But that’s not how Benioff experienced it.
“It didn’t feel that way,” he said on a Zoom with co-creator Alexander Woo. “We were champing at the bit. We had a year-long negotiation to get the rights but meanwhile the three of us were not only doing zooms, we actually started writing just because we were so antsy to get going. And then we had [the pandemic]: it took a very long time before we finally got on set. Even though we had all that time, we still ended up having to rewrite everything. And go back for reshoots. Like a first season of any show, you’re trying to figure it out.

For our recent webchat, Ruscio (who received his first career Emmy nomination to date for the Netflix sci-fi blockbuster) adds, “You’re also needing to continually shed, detach and look at it again, and then another time, and then another time,” he explains about the painstaking process of chiseling a scene into its final product. “Sometimes you’ll take the material home where you’re not in the editing bay, and then look at it there, where you can’t touch any buttons and see how does this work for an audience? I think you do have to trust the intelligence of the audience,” he says. “We didn’t feel like we needed to spell it out and...

In the end, Ramsay Bolton received the fate he truly deserved, but the actor who brought this monstrous character to life on screen, Iwan Rheon, might have preferred facing dragons over the hounds that met him on screen.
Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones | HBO
The story of how Rheon learned about his character’s grim end is almost as amusing. As during a conference call, the Game of Thrones creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, humorously announced, “Ramsay makes it to the Iron Throne!”

Fans Almost Missed George R.R. Martin's Cameo in House of the Dragon's Latest Episode - Main Image
Game of Thrones has always been more of a serious show in HBO’s lineup, but the series has been known to make the odd cameo or two—like Ed Sheeran playing a Lannister soldier in the original series.
Interestingly, the latest episode of House that Dragons Built revealed that series co-creator George R.R. Martin makes a cameo in the current season, and it’s been right under fans’ noses.

A segment in the latest episode of House that Dragons Built gives an in-depth look at the making of the weirwood tree in Harrenhal—specifically, the one in the courtyard that Daemon and Alys sometimes find themselves in front of.

It’s no secret that the ending of Game of Thrones was universally criticized, leaving many fans, and even the cast, disappointed. Lena Headey, who portrayed Cersei, had different expectations for her character, envisioning a dramatic showdown with Arya. However, the showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, didn’t take this route.

George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice gave way to a whole fantasy world we now know as Westeros. From fire-breathing dragons to all-knowing crows to walking zombies, they have it all. The fair maiden, the lone wolf, the court politics, the secrecy, war, blood, death, and gore – any of it is hardly amiss. The book was adapted into Game of Thrones by HBO, and it became one of the most popular TV shows of all time.

Every Game of Thrones fan knows how crucial Catelyn Stark is to the story, especially when it comes to the Red Wedding scene, and for those who’ve read the books. The Stark family matriarch has always been a key figure, and even years after the series ended, she’s still remembered fondly. This isn’t just because of the character’s importance but also thanks to the actress who played her.
Still from Game of Thrones (HBO)
Whether it’s good or bad, the cast is defined by the seasons and episodes. Unlike movies, TV series make audiences recognize actors for their long-term roles. So it’s a bit strange to think that the mother of the famous Stark could have been played by anyone other than Michelle Fairley.

The Latest Episode of House of the Dragon is Getting Review Bombed - Main Image
It’s no joke that review bombing has become a tactic for anyone who is against ‘woke’ material online, and it’s happened for woman-centric shows like She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Ms. Marvel, and even Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Even the latest season of The Boys was getting anti-woke sentiments when it became pretty clear that the show was making fun of the right-wing audience.
Now the latest series to get the review bombing treatment is House of the Dragon, and it was all because of one little kiss.

The latest episode of Hotd, Smallfolk was one of the slower episodes of the season, but it definitely saw the culmination of something the show was building toward—a romance between Rhaenyra and the ‘White Worm’ Mysaria.

Exclusive: Netflix has found the actor set to play President Garfield’s daughter in upcoming biographical series Death By Lightning produced by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
British up-and-comer Laura Marcus (The Serpent Queen) will portray Mollie Garfield opposite Michael Shannon, who leads as the 20th Potus.
The series from Mike Makowsky (Bad Education), which is being EP’d by Game of Thrones and 3 Body Problem‘s Benioff and Weiss via their overall deal with Netflix, tells the stranger-than-fiction true story of Garfield’s assassination by Charles Guiteau (Matthew Macfadyen).
Garfield was President in 1881 and was assassinated later that year, having previously served nine terms as a Congressman. He was elected as a Senator but declined this when he became President, despite having not sought the office. He was shot by Guiteau, who felt he had played a major role in Garfield’s election. Every streamer gets the “Game of Thrones” copycat it deserves. HBO, the original house of the dragons, can lay claim to an official prequel series that’s slavishly devoted to its predecessor. Prime Video, which would be the Scrooge McDuck of streaming if not for Apple TV+, can spend all of McBezos’ money rebooting “The Lord of the Rings,” yet still end up with a naggingly laborious “Rings of Power.” Netflix, always happier to buy talent than develop good ideas, hired “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to turn a “3 Body Problem” into a three-season snooze (replete with problems that plagued their last few seasons in Westeros).

The 2024 Best Drama Writing Emmy category is the second time in four years that none of the nominees from the prior year are eligible, giving us a whole new slate of programs competing for six slots (out of 134 total submissions on the ballot). All of last year’s nominated shows — “Better Call Saul” (“Point and Shoot” by Gordon Smith and “Saul Gone” by Peter Gould), “Bad Sisters”, “Andor” (“One Way Out” by Beau Willimon), “The Last of Us”, “The White Lotus” (“Arrivederci” by Mike White), and the winner “Succession” (“Connor’s Wedding” by Jesse Armstrong) — are not on this year’s Emmy ballot, as they either concluded or didn’t air any new episodes.

For many viewers, the trouble with House of the Dragon began with the opening credits of the very first episode.
The decision to repurpose the iconic Game of Thrones theme song for an entirely new series was strange, and it might be unprecedented in the history of high-profile spinoffs.
After all, it's not like Frasier opened with shots of Cafe Nervosa over lyrics about a place where everybody knows your name.
The decision to use Ramin Djawadi's orchestral score was fairly minor, but some critics theorized that it was indicative of HBO's confusion about how this show should be rolled out and marketed.
There was a time when Game of Thrones was the biggest thing on television by a wide margin, and naturally, execs wanted to capitalize on that popularity.

Following up Wendell & Wild, animation wizard Henry Selick is planning to return to the world of Neil Gaiman with an adaptation of The Ocean at the End of the Lane. “Instead of a child going to this other world with a monstrous mother, it’s a monstrous mother who comes into our world to wreak havoc on a kid’s life,” Selick told Variety, contrasting the film with his previous Gaiman adaptation Coraline. The new Netflix series 3 Body Problem is continuing to tell the story of its first season through some “additional episodes” that the streamer has ordered, which will seemingly segue into new seasons as the show has been renewed for two more. The 3 Body Problem was the title of the first novel in Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy. The second novel was titled The Dark Forest and the third was Death’s End. The first season of 3 Body Problem did pull in a sizeable audience, but the show wasn’t exactly the massive hit Netflix was hoping it would be, especially when you factor in the price tag of over $20 million per episode.
