‘Good Trouble’ Co-Creator Breaks Down the Series’ Emotional Farewell
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “What Now?,” the series finale of “Good Trouble,” now streaming on Hulu.
"Good Trouble,” which aired its series finale on Freeform Tuesday, has been a flagship show for the channel’s Gen-z and liberal-leaning audience since it premiered in 2018. The drama was a spinoff from “The Fosters,” a groundbreaking, foundational show for ABC Family, Freeform’s previous name before it rebranded with a heavier focus on programming for politically active 20somethings. “Good Trouble” centered on “The Fosters” characters Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) as they moved into a communal loft space called The Coterie in downtown Los Angeles, and began their post-grad adult lives.
Yes, the show revolved around Callie and Mariana’s personal and fledgling professional lives, but it also tackled real-life issues that affected them and their housemates. In the first season,...

Here’s when and where you can stream more than 20 new holiday movies and specials this year, including at least three new versions of “A Christmas Carol:” the Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell musical “Spirited;” Netflix’s animated “Scrooge” with the voices of Luke Evans and Olivia Colman; and “A New Diva’s Christmas Carol,” where the mean old miser is now a faded music star who’s now a mean old judge on a reality TV show.
And — “Mean Girls” alert — Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert and Jonathan Bennett each have a holiday movie out this year. And don’t forget “Hannukah on Rye,” about two deli owners who get matched up for the holidays, featuring singer Lisa Loeb.
If you don’t have the Hallmark channel, which is Christmas movie central, their new movies will be available on-demand on Peacock for 72 hours after their network premiere and on subsequent re-airings.

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Chris Naoki Lee’s feature directorial debut, Dinner Party, in which he stars alongside Kara Wang (Top Gun: Maverick), Imani Hakim (Mythic Quest) and Kausar Mohammed (The Flash). The global indie distributor has slated the pic for a day-and-date release on August 19.
Inspired by Lee’s own experiences growing up in a diverse community outside of Los Angeles, the indie ensemble drama follows Izzy (Hakim) and boyfriend Cal (Lee) as they go to a casual reunion dinner party amongst Cal’s childhood friends 10 years after high school. The friends navigate socially sensitive topics, though some fall on deaf ears when it comes to the hyper-masculine Miles (Charles Hittinger). It doesn’t take long for Izzy to notice that Shannon (Wang), co-host and childhood friend to the boys, seems uncomfortable around Miles, as the film simmers into a slow burn that erupts in the final act.

"It's not safe here. They'll find us." Sony Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for The Calm Beyond, a Hong Kong sci-fi thriller survival movie that is now out to watch in the US. This premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2020, and has quietly dropped in the US already, even though this is the first time we're posting this trailer. A young woman lives on, hidden in plain sight in a ruined Hong Kong building after a tsunami destroyed the city. A castaway on a concrete island. Her concealed existence is changed forever when a small child literally floats into her life. In an interview: "The idea for a film, The Calm Beyond, came to [director Joshua Wong] during an Mri scan. It's about surviving a storm and 'how you live after.'" Unfortunately the director passed away after finishing and premiering this in 2020. The film stars Kara Wang as Asha,...

The dystopian/post apocalyptic theme has been one of the most dominant during the latest years in world genre cinema, essentially mirroring a pessimism that seems to lurk all over humanity. Joshua Wong tries his hand on the category, by also including another audience-favorite element, the presence of a little girl.

It's no question that Good Trouble is a series that's been ahead of the curve, not so much timely as having a headstart, tackling a plethora of issues, and displaying authentic storytelling since 2018.
It has a knack for addressing issues and showcasing diversity before the conversations even hit the mainstream, every bit a groundbreaking trendsetter as its predecessor.
And Good Trouble Season 3 Episode 15 is a perfect example of it with its organic display of intersectionality and Chinese culture through Alice and her Kwan and Coterie family.
We caught up with the personable, passionate, and, of course, funny Sherry Cola to discuss the nuances of another great installment. Check it out!

Good Trouble never shies away from tackling tough subject matters. Over the course of its three seasons, the show has continuously tapped into social issues like racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and gender equality in an authentic, meaningful way. Alice's (Sherry Cola) storyline is just one example of that. The first part of season three begins with Alice leaning into harmful stereotypes in order to succeed in her comedy improv class, even though it makes her uncomfortable. Eventually, Alice finds her voice and takes a stand against those cheap stereotypes, and now she's hosting a Lunar New Year party to teach her roommates about the holiday and her Chinese culture.
For Cola, it's been such a real experience to watch her character grow from being a people-pleaser to finally coming into her own this season. "It honestly gives me goosebumps," Cola told Popsugar. "Seeing her just completely break...

Good Trouble finally returns to Freeform tonight, and we had the chance to chat with Sherry Cola about the coming events.
If you watch Good Trouble online, you know Cola plays Alice on the hit Freeform drama.
Below, we chatted with the actress about what's to come for Alice, filming during a pandemic, and much more.
TV Fanatic: What drew you to the role of Alice on Good Trouble?
Sherry Cola: Thank you for asking that. It meant so much to me just to see in the email of this audition that there was an Asian-American queer female story.
There has been some progress in Asian representation, but unfortunately, we're still shocked when we read that there is an Asian as a lead character, you know, because we're so used to being pushed to the side, et cetera.
I feel like I was just really, really flattered and just touched...

Actor Christopher Naoki Lee, whose credits include AMC’s The Terror and Fox’s Deputy, is set to make his feature directorial debut with the socially-minded pic Dinner Party which he co-wrote with Greek alum Daniel Weaver.
Lee also stars in the film which, as the title suggests, centers on a dinner party with a group of diverse Millennials. While most of these roles are being kept under wraps due to their turning points in the pic’s plot, Deadline has learned that Kara Wang of Freeform/Nuyorican’s series Good Trouble will play one of two female pilots in Maverick, the other being portrayed by Monica Barbaro who has already been announced. Wang is repped by Global Artists Agency and Stride Management.
In addition, Jack Schumacher, who has appeared on Fox’s Empire and NBC’s Chicago P.D., has joined the cast as one of the many pilots. Schumacher is represented by Stewart Talent and Velocity Entertainment Partners.
Also boarding Top Gun: Maverick are Greg Tarzan Davis (Chicago P.D.), Jake Picking, Raymond Lee, Jean Louisa Kelly and Lyliana Wray (CBS All Access’ Strange Angel).
All of the newly announced above join Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Manny Jacinto and Barbaro. Joseph Kosinski directs from a screenplay by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, and Eric Warren Singer. Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Skydance’s David Ellison are producing. The first Top Gun made north of $356M at the global box office.
Davis is repped by Ellis Talent Group and Disante Frank & Company, Lee is repped by CAA and Levity, Kelly by Aka Talent Agency and Industry Entertainment and Wray by Paradigm, Endorse Management Group and Eric Feig Entertainment & Media Law.
